Rug Doctor a Serious Marketing Threat?
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:49:20 pm »
Evening all,

Have been learning how to do keyword research on google adwords keyword planning tool.
Am starting to get the hang of it and it has revealed some startling information.

If i,m correct, and I hope I,m not, acording to the keyword planning tool, the search term 'Rug Doctor' in all its variations gets around 600 searches in the Leeds area each month.

This compares with around 500 searches for other keyword variations of carpet cleaning in Leeds.

This spells out to me that one single company is getting over half the available domestic carpet cleaning work in Leeds i.e. Rug Doctor.

As if thats not bad enough how many customers just go direct to there nearest Morrisons and just collect a machine with out a google search?

Plus, the 500 odd 'other' carpet cleaning searches are all shared between the main players on the first page of Google.

So it seems to me that the inferior little Rug Doctor is punching well above its weight and is a real masssive marketing force.

And I reckon it gets worse, I dont even reckon that they are just hired by the bottom end of the market, I would not be surprised if every cross section of society give them a try.

The reason being they have nothing to compare it with, they have very little idea if they are getting a good, bad or indifferent carpet clean!

On a more positive note I wonder what the re-hire ratio is like?

Can anybody possibly check these figures in there own area to confirm that I,m not talking poope?

Im off for a lie down as I dont feel well  :(

Rug doctor machines are readily available to hire here in Inverness. It is my experience that people will hire them once and, having seen the results and how much hard work is involved, never go back again. Most people realise that  if you want things done properly you call in the professionals.
If you are good at your job you will always get work but there will always be a minority that will think they are being smart by renting an inferior service and ending up with inferior results. You can never change this mindset.

Nothing to stop you targeting the term Rug Doctor in you adwords campaign and creating an advert highlighting the risks of using hire machines / d.i.y, i wouldn't directly use the term Rug Doctor as that might be make you liable in some way.  Play on peoples fears and state why hiring a professional carpet cleaner will help them. :)

I think a lot of small landlords use them. I am told one of my rivals uses one as they do all types of cleaning

It just proves they are marketing effectively...

And also proves its the marketing that gets the work and not the machine.
