Hi

I am after a new hose reel and was thinking of buying thishigh pure freedom one

Any one else have this product,does the hose still get caught between the side of the drum and the frame of the reel

They are solid . They work better with microbore though.

We use them they are great hose reels. They pull out well used then for about a year now

Th only problem I can see with it is that if you pick the reel out of the van and place it on the road, the steel tubing on the bottom will scrape on the floor and will eventually scuff off the paint and start to rust. I had this with a few reels so I put some plastic piping on the bottom tubing so as it protects it from the road. It will make the reel last a lot longer!

why would you put your reel on the road ?

I take it out of the vw transporter on to the road behind the van and then connect it to the outside manifold, close the van doors, lock it and point the reel in the direction I am going  better on the road as putting it on the path is quite an obstacle for passers by.

That's exactly what I do.

I've tried most hose reels, plastic, powder coated etc.  They last anwhere between 3 months and 1 year and no longer.  The fact is they are just not built for the punishment we give them.

After much humming and hahhing I decided to bite the bullet and bought the Ionic stainless steel hose reel.  Not cheap!  Think I paid £280 for it.  I don't think I've ever seen a more expensive reel!  I don't go for the most expensive stuff, but I was pretty tired of replacing reels every 9-12 months.  Plus, for the 3 months before you have to replace a crappy reel, it is hell to use.



But its guaranteed  (either 10 years or 5 years I think) and after using it for 2 years straight, and putting it through all the punishment I can see why.  It looks as good today as the day I bought it.  If your budget will stretch to it I highly recommend.  

Why is it so good?  Well to start with its stainless steel so it doenst rust at all.  Then (and this is super important) the clearance from the ground is good so you can reel it in nice and easy.  And the spindle part bearing is very smoothe somehow.  Great reel.

I think I've been down the same route as you with reels only lasting a short period of time. I thought light would be better so I bought the gardener plasticky one, but after 5 months the wheels broke so I put some solid plastic ones on but then it only lasted another 3 months before it completely fell apart while I was reeling in on a big contract (posh place, very embarrassing !!) so I bought another more robust one. But I must admit when this one goes I will probably go down the stainless steel route as you have done. Looks solid.
