bank accounts?
« on: January 07, 2014, 01:34:43 pm »
ive now been  trading 7 years, I originally thought I had to open a business account because originally i planned to employ, but after 7 years ive settled that Im happier on my own.
Now i plan to pay all monies into my personal account as im self employed sole trader rather than a business and explained such to the bank as im now unwilling to pay ridiculous bank charges on what is basically my wages, they arent happy! but as far as i can see they cant stop me from paying my earnings into one of my current accounts ?
ive spoken to the accountant that files my tax returns and he just said i need a seperate account that all money is paid into so as long as all earnings go into one account there is no problem, but " good luck with the bank allowing that"......
so who of you that are self employed soletraders use normal current accounts and have no issues?
I was a bit ped of yeaterday when I saw my statement and charges were just stupid considering i dont even have an over draft and always in credit!!

Tom, I do just that.
The worst thing you could do is tell your bank what you intend to do, just do it.
I have never had a "bank account" as such, always had a building society account with nationwide. I put fewer cheques ( in my name ) in these days, but never had issues, my local branch will except 10 at a time although I often put them in the machine inside the branch. I opened a second current account just for customers internet payments to go into then I transfer them over every few days to my main account by internet banking.
Like you (being a sole trader) I consider these payments my wages and no business of the bank or building society to tell me otherwise.
