Hi Cleanways, I would look on the window cleaning section of this forum for advice on telesales/marketing, as quite a lot of the window washers are using this method to sell their service to commercial customers.

A new sponsor of this website Becci Swan at www.leadingcall.co.uk, is a lady many of them are using for canvassing.
It maybe worth a few minuets of your your time to pop over to the "other side" and take a look through the specific posts on canvassing :)

Hi Ian,
Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I wanted to respond in some depth to your question and its taken some time to edit it. Hope its not to long.

The short answer to your question is no, I have not used Tele sales marketing as yet. I had always thought this form of marketing was more aimed at the commercial contracts market. However, I may be wrong now with the advances in modern technology such as freely available public databases held on the internet.

These can help a small business owner to more effectively target specific customer's; both private and commercial, through the use of demographic profiling and other free public information and online resources. Many of these databases are available free to use. And are held on government websites such as the Office for National Statistics: http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/index.html.

As well as other government and local government websites. All are well worth a look in my opinion.

There is a mine of helpful information held on the site about family income, household make up, area demographics, jobs people do in that area and much more. It also has information on average incomes by Postcode as well. I have used this site in the past as part of my studies as a nursing student and found it extremely useful when researching local communities for health care research and academic presentations.

The information the ONS website can be useful for all cleaners researching local residential areas and it does have information on businesses in the local area.

Cold calling any customer is a skill that that needs to be learned and you need to have confidence in your presentation skills and in the standard of your workmanship, to be able to sell your services professionally.

As I am sure you understand Ian, from the businesses you yourself run.

Regards Phil

I have spoken to the owner of one of the biggest telemarketing companies in the UK and he actually steered me away from telesales for carpet cleaning stating that their are better and more cost affective ways of getting customers. Now contract office cleaning ect is a different story, works great with telesales.

We have had great success contacting commercial properties for carpet cleaning, however residential doesn't seem to work so well.

Hi Becci,

Thanks for giving us the benefit of your telemarketing knowledge on this side of the forum concerning domestic carpet cleaning.

As you say the domestic market for carpet cleaning is very different to the commercial sector. Where I assume they are more interested in the lowest price per square foot or metre, and are looking towards more of a quick maintenance clean on a regular basis, rather than a more through in-depth clean and spot and stain removal service, that a domestic customer may require once a year.

Of the commercial companies I clean for, not one of them has any interest in how dirty their carpets are and look.
They just want them vacuumed every week and the offices cleaned for the lowest price, at the highest standard ???

Regards Phil

Hi Phil

Areas that have worked particularly well are care homes and hotels, as they have a high foot traffic and the requirement for their premises to look good to impress potential customers - you're not going to want to stay in a hotel that looks dirty, or put family members into care where the impression is that they don't clean.

These areas are also likely to have upholstery cleaning needs at some stage too so can be get to get your foot in the door.

We probably get 500 jobs a year with tele sales, but you can send a text message, store your clients in your phone, we number our clients from 1 - 10,000 we use the same text message as we use when we tele market them, you get awesome results. Take a lot of time storing them, but you can text them every 3 months, with very little work, and texts are free, depending on your plan.

Tread with care, we were lumbered with a massive fine after a couple of people reported us after calling tps reg'ed lines. One was a commercial.

We appealed and we were pardoned part of the fine but still had to cough up around £18000. I fell into depression as it almost tipped us off the radar.
Be warned, do your checks or you will get a fine the size of a mortgage.

So you rang a reg line once. They reported you and your found £18000.

That's sounds very unfair and hard to believe.
