Johnsons furniture oil on wool carpet.
« on: December 04, 2013, 05:57:04 pm »
On Monday I'm cleaning some sofas and a carpet, customer had them done previously by CD and wasn't really impressed after paying nearly £500 for the job.

Just after CD left she says she spilled some Johnsons furniture oil on the wool carpet,CD came back for her but failed to remove the stain. Its about the size of a small dinner plate.

I asked her what they had used and she just said they rubbed it with something ???

This was about 2 years ago so the stain has been there a long time.Has anyone any ideas on this, will I be wasting my time trying to get an improvement.

I had planned to mist with a product called Solve X,which have had lots of success with on small oil drops ect,and leave on whilst I do the upholstery and then rinse this out before cleaning the rest of the carpet.

Ive told her not to expect too much and she understands it might not improve.

Any advice,Thanks

Wayne it depends what the cleaner used and whether the customer has used anything. If the oil has a stain in it then it will be permanent. If it is just an oil then it may be possible to improve it but unlikely to remove completely. The wool will have absorbed the oil so may require a few seperate cleans rather than one hit. You will get an idea if its going to work the first try.  I would do a test clean on a small part of the stain using citrus gel mixed with a little hot water. If this doesn't work I wouldn't think much else would.
