First day on the GutterVac today.
« on: November 22, 2013, 12:03:37 am »
Done a day on the gutters today with a new Numatic machine and Grippamax's (or rather Gardiners) poles. Had my doubts about how much grief the vac was going to be with blockages and set up etc but it wasn't at all. It was great not putting your hands in and lifting all that smelly crap out! The vac worked a treat, occasionally when doing a full gutter the nozzle got blocked but I just took it off and poked a piece of old hose down to clear it. One large 3 bed semi I did with not much debris in only took about 30 -40 mins inc set up and away in the van.

A great day and good to have a breather from doing the windows. I'd reccomend anyone to get one if their considering.

Hi Clearview,

I've been considering whether or not to get into gutter clearing/cleaning... You certainly sound positive about it. Could I ask how much (if it's not commercially confidential) you charged for that job and whether you thought it was more or less profitable than w/cleaning for the time spent?

Cheers,

Kev

Financially if your fair with your pricing as I am it will earn a little more than windows. I didn't get it for that reason though, I got it because I thought I'm working as WFP all the time now no ladder other than roof access so why risk it on gutters when a client asks for a clear out. It's a big outlay I spent about £1300 all told. I hope this helps.

We do a LOT of gutters and 3 years a go got a vac and it was the best thing we ever did!!

The nozzle does get blocked, you do have to clean it all up but IMO its all way way worth it!
We charge £40 for a 3 bed semi and can knock um out in 20-30 mins depending on build up sometimes even quicker if its all loose stuff and not grass and trees growing.

When we bought the vac we also got a local leaflet dump, glossy double sided printed and sent out to a few thousand homes and it paid for itself after month two, including the cost of the leaflets and delivery!!

Round here people seem to like it as its safer and you can get to the hard to reach places which ladders cant.

We also give a lot of ppl a call a year on to see if they need doing again as most just say yeah do it, its even easier then!!

Oooooo that is shiny!!

Thanks Fin will take it all under consideration. At this time of year my p/washing work dies off and so I still have some extra capacity for other work such as gutter cleaning.

Do you get many gutters jobs or is it just an 'as and when' thing.

Also interested on anyone else thinks of gutter cleaning to bring in extra income...?  ???

You don't have to dump the crap! It is perfectly usable as garden compost and most of my customers have a compost bin or similar.
The pen is mightier than the sword (and a lot easier to write with!)

IMHO safer, more thorough as all the tile dust gets hoovered up, quicker and without doubt easier.

As I have only just got it I've only just started mentioning its a job we now do. Although I did it before off the ladders I never mentioned it unless asked as I didn't really like doing it.
