shurflo pump help
« on: November 20, 2013, 01:59:22 pm »
my pump has been cutting out all day, when i went to try and sort the problem i noticed it was smoking slightly from one of the wire connections so i disconnected it all and let it cool down.started it back up and it worked fine for about ten mins then it cut out again and wont start at all.

will i have to buy a new one? and using a pole tap not open fully to restrict water
,would this be the cause of the cutting out?

Well this is weird.

On Monday my pump had been messing about. It would cut out and not restart.

When I closed the tap and it hit P on the varistream. Once the tap has been reopened the pump would not restart.

Anyway I have had a look at my sealed box of connections and bugger me the connection I made has burnt out!!!

So it was never the controller it was the pump.

I think the wiring was not rates high enough. Yet the cable was 10amp 12v

I think from what I remember reading it's ok to use these pumps with out controllers but two things apply.

1 you must still use the pressure switch
2 you must not restrict the flow or partially

So you probably have damaged it. Because if you ain't using a flow controller the pump is TRYING to pump flat out. But you ain't letting it.

Just purchased liquid logic analogue one for £90 really good kit.

The varistream is good but the main gripe is what flow you want!

It goes from 1 to 10.

For me 4 is to fast and 3 is too slow. So I bought an analogue one.

Had mine for over a year and used it for 3 weeks.

We've tried loads of different controllers with auto shut off this and battery preserve that - in the end we decided on this:

Does the job. Simple and straightforward.

That's the same one I have just bought. Just under liquid logic name.

Good controllers, but if you didn't want to use a controller then you need to have a return pipe 'teed' into the system after the pump and back to the tank or a loop in the system where you put a tee before and after the pump so when shutting off the water at the brush the flow is diverted bank to the tank or loops back in front of the pump basically going around in a circle ( much like life! )
