I have a guy who does all my contract work who is on sub contract basis but now looking for a helper on domestic side. Apart from his wages for a day what other costs will I be looking at. I know he wont be paying tax on 1 days wages.
Thanks

If the helper has another job then it will be classed as a second job and the rules are different depending how many hours they do though.

Employers insurances I would of thought is another.

Do you?
What?

I've not got insurance for the lads that sub from me.
Wasn't aware I needed any if they're insured?

If I insure them and they insure themselves, won't each policy just pay 50% anyway?

im sure its something you should have, not sure who pays out on what with regards to insurance companies, but do think its something thats required, if i remember right when i do my insursance one of the questions is do i have subbies and have need insurance for them, i will check with insurer next time i call in, might be an optional thing, maybe its to cover you if there insurance isnt good enough for any claim?

I agree. It won't cost much to insure him and kit him out - plus he will be a happy worker if you look after him. Also register him with HMRC - it's easy to do. I know because I do it and have somebody 2 days a week
