the VENT thread
« on: September 24, 2013, 08:55:18 pm »
Having a bad day?

This thread is like the equivalent of going into an empty room and screaming at the top of your voice.. Or an online punch bag depending on your day.

My afternoon... Drove 45 mile each way to look at a job. Got there to find out they weren't even flipping home.  Measured up, left, 10 mins down the road get a phone call saying they had popped out but are home now... So turn round and head back. Doubt I've got the job either..

Then, get a text from a job I did the other day asking why I hadn't cleaned a path behind a locked gate that he never mentioned he wanted doing during quoting.

Most days I love my job.. Today's not one of them

We had a great time yesterday ...  cleaning commercial parking spaces outside of a empty unit in Milton keynes, unfortunately the runoff / silt pooled next to a walkway, pedestrians insisted to push past cones barrier tape instead of walking litterally 10m up the road. Good old joe public, we must of been moaned at a dozen times, on one occasion a young lady decided to push her pram thro it  ::)roll.... when you try to explain to them I might as well of had a turd strapped to my head , the looks you get 'What you want me to walk up there?' In the end you just laugh it off.
Plus side two other units have asked for prices  ;D

We've been dealing with smackheads and drunks on this night contract in the city centre, always breaking the tape. I gave up taping areas off and just get on with it. Had a few arguments too, one guy threw one of our cones at me, had to bite my tongue and laugh it off.

Our nightmare yesterday anyway was graf chems not doing anything to this spray paint on brick so going back today to wet blast it off.

Thought I would bring this back.

Priced a job up a while a ago. But they were doing house up so wanted to wait a month.
They had some outside work done, a path installed I think. Guy that did it said he did jet washing and said he would clean their drive.

This drive is just under 170m2 fairly heavy in weeds. They quoted £200!! Couldn't believe it..

I quoted for it, inc pre treat, re sand and post treat. About 30m2 of decking and same again in concrete and i thought I was reasonable at double their price.

Luckily customer stayed loyal to me.

. 200 nicker for all that..and then no re sanding. Why do they work for f*** all, then it makes me look like a robbing bar steward.

There will always be under-cuters & add-on merchants screwing up what we do, f**ks me off too, especially when they haven't got a clue what they are doing and the customer thinks that is as good as it gets, make it difficult for the pros who charge the going rate etc. for a proper job.
At least we are at a time where the weekend warriors & summer brigade will have put there kit away for the year as it will be to cold for them, poor souls, bless em.

Spent yesterday removing gloss paint from brickwork, customer had their guttering replaced, the 'tradesman' then decided to paint soffit using a brush on a long stick.. I kid you not ! paint everywhere. Should of taken some pics.
Turns out this guy has a large guttering / upvc company based in their town  :-X
