Anyone else had issues with
« on: October 22, 2013, 02:35:03 pm »
others nicking your website carpet cleaning pictures? We have this company down in Southampton who are using our pictures saying they don't belong to us,  they belong to Google!

We have started legal action as she won't remove our picture.  We have tried to explain that Google/Yahoo do not own website content, it only means when you upload images/wording you have given them permission to do so. It doesn't mean they belong to Google!

Already taken one person to court over this year, and won the case.

Anyone else had issues?

My life is fine thanks.  However when you do all the hard work and someone else wants the credit for it why should they.

You obviously don't take pride in your work!

I have named and shamed them on my facebook!

Many others are doing the same!

A while back, I had an email about software that could stop this.

Your images would be hosted elsewhere (say, Amazon S3) and served to your site.

If someone stole them (or rather the path to them by adding them to another site), the software would replace the images with something like hardcore porn instead.

Sadly I cannot find the email. Why not just file a DMCA notice?

Who was it it a few years ago that this happened to and he changed all the pictures to nude footballers?  It was hilarious  ;D

Now that would be funny!  Will try and source this... It's so annoying though.  Is their work not that good, that they have to nick other carpet cleaners pictures!

I find it abhorrent that many web site owners copy not only images but text as well, if not the whole website layout that you may have spent many hours if not weeks working on.

On several occasions, I have had to send emails to have content removed that has been coppied from my site with the DMCA warning.

I also now ensure that all my images are watermarked because these lazy barstuards will niether spend the time or have the inteligence to remove them.

Could you not inform google of the copying and refusal to remove the images under the DMCA? They are usually pretty quick to respond and remove a website from the index.

I'd be quite proud they were using my pictures.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

We are in the middle of a plagiarism case against a company who copied the whole of one of our websites, products and Facebook material and put it on their own sites.
Going to court as we speak.
They took the site down but are being sued for the costs involved in making them do it, however they continue to copy all manner if things.

They seem very blasé about the whole thing as if it doesn't matter that we have done all the work and they are using it for their own gains.

It's sad that some people are just not honest about how they run their business.

On the flipside,

I had a courtesy call from a cleaner called David McBroom from Scotland.

He asked permission to use a couple of things from one of my sites. Really polite and I would have no hesitation in helping David again.

Had one last week guy down Southampton used my leather pictures I left comment on his facebook page and he contacted me asking if I wanted it removing. It would be nice if people asked first one of my upholstery pics is on a few sites it doesn't bother me take it as a compliment that people cannot get results like I can ;) ;D
