Obsessive Compulsive Window Cleaners
« on: September 07, 2013, 09:56:00 am »
Anyone else scrub and rinse the window too much i'm sure that clean them more than i need to but i just cant help myself from doing it.

It gets on my tits to be honest cause i only get paid to clean them once and if i'm over scrubbing and rinsing i'm not getting paid the the extra scrub and rinse  :(

Try just a quick scrub and good rinse on maintenance cleans then go back to check results then you will see it is not necessary to over scrub.
Make it a lot easier.

I know where your coming from have the same problem myself, don't get me wrong I know that wfp
cleaning is a far from perfect method and that it has many flaws ( problem openers and so on )
but I still clean more than I should do.
And yes it does bug me at times.
Doesn't help when you have a couple of excellent traditional window cleaners as competition.
To be honest unless its stopping you reach you financial targets then I wouldn't worry too much about it
Since starting 5 years ago I have seen at least 15 new starts offering the same old rocket around the house
service and none have survived.
I know that being over fussy has got me a full round very quickly as most of my customers have come to me
from word of mouth.
What ever you do don't listen to the speedsters on here most of them wouldn't last a week if they had any
serious competition or slightly fussy customers.

Me too.

Remember, though, that your customers DO notice it.

Im a splash and dash, i do a good job but not a perfect job.
On first cleans im more than overboard on them even by using a squeegie on lower windows to make sure i win the customer for the future cleans! but on 4 weekly maintanance cleans there isnt time for the glass to get overly dirty so a quick scrub and rince is all that is needed.

I was concerned that I was taking to long to clean, but I've never had a complaint and my business keeps growing all through word of mouth. I do charge more than my competitors so still make a good living, but I leave jobs confident that I have done a good job.

I have to admit that I'm an obsessive too.  :-[
On regular cleans (I only clean every 2 months) I try to limit myself to doing just two passes over the glass.

Perhaps the first person to admit to being splash & dash?

whats considered as a quick job?, i  generally go over frames, then glass twice then round the edge again, is that enough or too much?

+1 splash and dash here.
Any longer than 10 minutes a house and i start thinking i need to speed up.
Im in the job to earn as much as i can in as little time.
Takings off all first cleans till march 7th 2014
October  total=  cleaned  extra per month
November = cleaned extra per month
Total £  so far.

That's were your wrong.
Its about making money today tomorrow and in ten years time, take your eye of the ball and there will
always be somebody waiting to grab what you've got.
As more and more window cleaners come along and customers get more choice sooner or later they are going to realise
that they no longer have to put up with a second class service while paying first class prices.

who is to say you cant deliver a first class service at speed.
I would say the biggest efficiency i have introduced is to use a extreme brush with pencil jets( i was always a fan man)
and to change the the way i now clean
i spend less time on the glass, less rinsing and have knocked off 5 mins per house on average, i am earning more and finishing earlier, all regular cleans and there is no difference in the finish than if i spent more time scrubbing and rinsing

Once its clean its clean

Im sure other things such has having a brush in good condition ( i change every three months) having the round organised helps.

if you use a high flow then some windows its a quick rinse and scrub and on to the next window but on 8 weekly cleans near trees and if the weathers been windy then you have to take a bit more time.

you can usually gauge when you can "splash and dash". sometimes yes, sometimes no. ;) :)
price higher/work harder!

I've stopped cleaning the frames as much just a very quick once over but I give the top frame more attention.
What slows me down are the sills I turn the water off and wipe them numerous times because I'm paranoid about drips onto lower windows.
What do you all do?

No. You are wrong.
The only reason we clean is to make money.
Today, tomorrow whenever.
If you are delivering a second class service you won't keep making the money.
Consider yourself educated.

The fact is that the splash and dash guys are right window cleaning is one of the
few things where for some reason the customers will put up with anything.
We all know very successful window cleaners going for years who have never properly cleaned
a window in their lives yet the customers stick with them.
Yes them moan and complain but never dump.
I mean in what other profession could you charge £15 for ten mins work doing a job that's needs no
qualifications and where you don't even have to be any good at it.
I stand corrected on this one.
