New SLX...bendy as hell at height
« on: August 26, 2013, 04:29:31 pm »
I brought a SLX 22 a few weeks ago, I'm really impressed with how short it is when collapsed & also how light and rigid it is. So I decided to buy 3 extensions for it which makes it about 40 ft, used it today fully extended and its really bendy. Are the extensions 100 % carbon.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Simon

There is a MASSIVE difference between a 22ft pole & a 40ft pole mate- regardless of brand or material. More so than you would ever imagine- that's why you're a little shocked! ;D

For 40ft you really want to be looking at Xtreme poles. ;)

yeah i have a supermax and its bendy however, at the price if you look how much other 40 foot poles are its starts to look a lot better, i like a happy medium if i had much more work i would go for an extreeme and i would never use anything that wasent carbon

I love the sl2 for 40 ft +  I wouldn't say its overly bendy (except in windy conditions  :-X) but I notice a lot more bend in the slx25 when using the extra extension for a couple of 'specials' so much so I'd rather dig out the clx 27 and the step up or build up the sl2

I appreciate your comments guys.

I've been using a Ionics ergolite for the past 5 years and just stripped it down accordingly. The ergolite is 1 kg heavier but so much more rigid than the SLX at 40ft.
I suppose it's a trade off between weight & rigidity.

i only need 2 poles

extreme 25 which gets used for most work

extreme 47 for higher work

the 47 doesnt get used half as much as the 25 but when its needed its almost a joy to use due to its lightness and rigidity.

i have a 22 SLX as well but it doesnt get used at the moment.

the extreme 47 still bends at full height but not half as bad as the 40ft supermax i used to have.its a lot lighter too.
price higher/work harder!

yes it is not great, i have a slx25 with 3 extensions, not perfect to be honest.
I don't need a xtreme47  because i don't use it so often like Daz but my next pole will be a xtreme 25 with xtreme extensions  ;)
