Hi All

I am cleaning a wool carpet tomorrow and wondered if there are any pointers I need to be aware of regarding cleaning a carpet that has been scotch guard protected (roughly 5 years ago).

The carpet will no longer have the guard on it.  5 yearts of foot traffice and vacuuming will have striped it back.  Clean as normal. If the carpet is still in very good condition offer to re-guard it.

Just clean it your usual way.
That's all you can do.

If it's in good condition don't go nuclear on it, if you feel you need to restore it with heavy duty chemicals make sure they are aware of the consequencies and offer to re-apply the treatment.

If its got Stain Protector you are suppose to use a Cleaning solution around about ph9 same applies to wool

As already mentioned pH 9 or below or a woolsafe cleaner will clean without removing protector.

My preference is Chemspec One Clean Traffic Lane Cleaner and Chemspec One Clean Liquid which has a 1:500 dilution and is recommended by all the major american carpet manufacturers for use on stain resistant carpet.

The Prochem equivalent would be Prespray Gold and Liquid Woofsafe or Fibre & Fabric Rinse

A top up coat of protector will be a profitable up-sell.

Some have commented on how well MPower works in these situations... probably a safe choice
