Julian, just do a search on Google for "carpet cleaners london" and check out whats the going rates. It's ridiculous, bedroom for £20, living room for £25 etc. Not saying there aren't people ready to pay top dollar for a quality service, but they seem to be hard to find nowadays.

I promise you the people in the big high end houses will not use cheap carpet cleaners who only charge £20.00 a room etc, I did 2 bedrooms in a London apartment a couple of weeks ago for a well known cook and I charged £260.00 for the job. The people with money know the value of money and there furniture and don't mind paying for a good service. They normally go on recommendations from interior designers etc. people with money know you can't get a £6000.00 plus suite cleaned properly for £65.00

But for every high end house the are a hundred low & middle end houses who have normal people living in them, who own £1200 suites.

These people work behind desks ( searching google when the boss is'nt looking) they don't use interior designers and they see these low prices

Mike, I couldn't have said it better.
I use to run Adwords campaigns for both carpet cleaning and general cleaning sides, but most people would not even consider using me, cuz all they see on line is cheap prices. So I was simply putting money down the drain.

Mark, fair enough. I do agree, but how many clients do you have like that one. I too have some very well paying clients in London, but unless you have been in the game for many years and developed a strong business network you can't rely solely on a handful of high end custys, or can you ;D

Emil,
I've been doing this for 15 years now, not as long as some but I have a few thousand customers on my database and 50% of them are high end customers in the Hertfordshire area and few in London, I done the Alltec fast track program about 12 years ago (some of you may knock it but most of you have copied  parts of it, 100% guarantees etc). We advertised to the higher end people, saying if you want cheap carpet cleaning, brush the dirt of the surface we respectfully ask you to phone somebody else but if you want the most thorough cleaning please call. Why do people buy a Mercedes etc when a Ford will get you to the same place and is probably more comfortable. there are a lot of people out there willing to spend good money. why is John Lewis always so busy with middle class people (thousands of them). If you have a good website that looks professional you'll get good customers. Just ask the right questions when they phone, you can get an idea  of what type of person they are. Just done 2 jobs today that came to over £600. That's my rant for the day.

Hi Mark,

I am genuinely happy for you! Hats off to you for your hard work gathering so many customers from the high end. I really mean it! I have only been going 4 years and although business is going generally well I find it hard at times to get enough work. I here what you say about Mercedes/Ford and do agree, in fact I too use the comparison sometimes when discussing quotes with customers  ;D
