Amtech Postage Cost
«
on:

My valve repair kit arrived today. The postage had cost Amtech 90p. They charged me £3. I wonder how they would justify this - it's certianly a nice little earner for them.

Maybe so, but that's quite a mark up.

Well it’s below the min wage and not a liveable wage, think yourself lucky

I can beat you there Heritage. Amtech charged me £8.75 p&p for a brass nipple for my cfr hand tool. £6 for the nipple.
Leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

Jiffy bags cost money , Franking machines cost money , the ink for them is really expensive, the time to pick the item and bag it cost money , storing the item on the shelf cost money etc etc etc , it may also state in the ordering terms and conditions that the min P&P charge is £3.

Add £3 to the price of the next job or a £1 to the next 3 jobs and break even.

^^^ lol that's not the point.
Paul
The package gets picked up free. No franking machine. Jiffy bag? 10p for 10,000
storing item on the shelf? surely this is covered by their non p&p turnover.

In my previous business , I had a dispatch / postal room ( we printed and posted out school photos) and there are many costs related to dispatch.
At the end of the day if you are not happy with the postal cost, call them and discuss with the company or find another supplier.

I feel that if there are costs associated with running the business they should increase the headline price of the item to include these. Then charge postage at what it actually is. I might end up paying the same amount but it would feel more 'honest'.
