Wondering what you guys do when windows are open . Do you carry on and just clean the glass or do you ask the customer to close the windows ? Some seem a bit miffed at having to close the windows...... Had a message today to stop cleaning a guys windows as he now has his own jet wash! I know he's a numpty but guys like this can harm your business by talking poop to his neighbours ..rant over

Some are possible to close with your pole and some can be cleaned whilst open, not the frame obviously. If the customer is home I will sometimes ask them to close windows.

If they don't close them or the customer is out the open windows get bumped and I lose no sleep over it.

As for the guy using a jetwash to clean his windows......don't let it bother you. A good percentage of the general public are, and always will be, idiots. It's not our job to change them.

I have had at least 10 cancel on me over the years because they 'bought a jet wash'. I am back cleaning most of them...

I agree with the above, the customer see you wash his windows with what appears to be ordinary water. A jet wash may be good to clean a car or a pave but not for windows once the water dries on the window it will leave spots and streaks, Also the high pressure water will pull dirt of the brick and area surrounding the window. I suspect he will come back

I would agree as an individual changing the publics perception of professional window cleaning is difficult, However a s coordinated group it could be done.

The public do not understand TDS and the effect on glass this is a message that as an industry we should try find a way to get the message over.

You are right Ian.
But it's surprising that after explaining the pure water filtration and cleaning method to customers how many still make you the gracious offer..... "help yourself to any water you need from the outside tap."  
It really does just go over the heads of people of what is involved.
Some believe that they can just go and buy a carwash brush on the end of a pole connect to a hosepipe and the outside tap and crack on.
And some people look at you as if you are trying to con them "Rogue Trader" style because you are not cleaning windows the proper way.
I have experienced all of the above scenarios, and in my experience only a small percentage of customers do not like wfp but most of them are not bothered and just want clean windows.

I had a good one yesterday a customers friend called when I was
cleaning.
She wanted to know how it worked so I explained
the system and method to her and the reply was.
So I could clean my own with water from my brita water jug.

well not really as the britta jug is useless as it only removes about 30 ppm from tap lol. plus shed be there all day.

I wonder if some of these fools have a similar conversation with their builder?
Something along the lines of "Oh I see you are using a bucket of slop and a trowel to plaster the living room wall.
I suppose I could do that with the gear I use for icing cakes. After all it looks similar, and it looks like money for old rope"
