Projected Water Shortages
« on: February 24, 2006, 11:13:15 pm »
Hi,
I am not trying to scaremainer but I am unsure at what level ,water conservation measures, may hit carpet cleaning.
Obviously Hose pipes , sprinklers etc will be hit first, then on to non essential areas like Golf courses, parks etc. At what stage will industrial use be controlled.
Has anyone got any memory of such a ban and will our trade bodies such as NCCA be lobbying on our behalf.
It may not happen but we may need to get our heads together to consider all possible options.
Appreciate your thoughts please
Eddie

I think you are worrying uneccessary.  First of all, the customer is not going to moan about you filling your portable machine with say 4 buckets (12 gallons), and when filling truckmount water tanks, do it so nobody will see you.

Here in wales we seem to be okay. The problem is to do with reservoirs and not really a lack of rain. Blame Thatcher for privatisation. If she had not wanted to privatise everything, with the profits going to shareholders instead of re-investment, the problem wouldn't be there now. Same as the failing electrical grid in this country. The shareholders want their divis, but the government want us to pay.

Don't worry

If the Water board can't supply me with water then why should I pay my Water rates.

Every year we get the same old crap, why not spend some of the Billions we pay towards the up-keep on repairing the leaking water pipes which apparently account for a huge percentage of water waste.

This is one subject that really gets my back up, we live in a country that has a perfect climet, unlike Spain & Portugal who can only dream at the amount of rainfall we get but seem to cope far better than we do.

Also i see on the teletext that drought starved areas in England face having compulsory water maters. Call me an old sceptic but, even more profits for them.

This mainly interests TM's but evrybody will hopefully find it interesting or probably already know  :-[

ive been telling some of my customers that it only costs £0.19p to fill up my tank but this is incorrect as we dont only get charged for water but 2/3 rds again on drainage costs so it acctualy costs £0.57p we also get charged for rain water, yep we get charged for the drainage of rain water off our roofs unless we live in new houses with soak aways  :P :P :P

I have a water metere on my house, nearly every house in cornwall has as it's the highest toll on cubic meter of water in the country as we have to pay for the fine beaches we have that getb trashed every summer, do you have one on your van Dave ??

yes ive got a 60 gallon tank a bit small I know

The other option is paying to use the stand pipe, it's about £50 a year and have acess to a 3 inch mains pipe so will fill tank in seconds but a licence is required for every county so if you travel you will need more than one

Hi

What has shareholders got to do with Rainfall?

Levels are low because rainfall has been very little so levels have not been kept up. levels have also nothing to do with leaks as again rainfall has not topped up basic resoviors to start with.

Every body want to blame governments, profits etc, etc.

It's simply rain hasn't been as it should be with warmer winters and hotter summers.

Global warming?
Sun spots?
Sun Cycle?

Moved house and went on a water meter and it was cheaper, bigeer house, more bogs, baths, sinks etc, so do not always believe the hype.

Last water shortage I renmember they closed the car wash's at the petrol stations.

I have a water metre, though not my choice. I also have 5 kids, 4 of which are girls who will go and have a bath for fun.

To martin.  The trouble with privatised businesses is the fact that the dividends are paid to the share holders before being spent on the repair of an aging system of pipe work. The trouble with a lot of people in this country is that they don't complain. If we are not receiving a proper service, stop paying your bills.

The electric grid in Britain is in a shabby state and as was quoted on the national news a while ago could crash.  Why?  Because not enough money has been spent on upgrading it.  Why?  Because the greedy share holders are receiving high dividends.

If everything was repaired then millions of gallons of water a year would not be escaping. I think the water companies use this to keep the prices high.

Hi Guys,

Heard on radio 5 today from a lady from the enviroment agency , that Sussex and Kent are the two counties most likely to be affected by shortages in the summer.

If its a dry summer then there may be stand pipes, water rotation etc.

Lets hope for a bit more rain than average then we'll all be O.K

Cheers

Doug

HI

Look, everyone seems to want to blame this or that company or some government from 20 years ago.

These companies are in business to make a profit as are we all, if we had shareholders then you are beholding to them, do a bad enough job and you have no job. Shareholders want to see profit.

The current government always wants to blame their problems on the previous ones instead of standing up and being counted.

Are you doing enough to save water?

Do you bath or shower?
Is you shower 5 mins or 20?
Do you wash up or have a dishwasher?
whats your water wastage?
Etc, etc, etc

We can all do our bit to help but fact is, most of us couldn't be bothered, we want to blame someone else, it's much easier!

Don't want to pay your water rates??

See how long before the baliffs move in, good luck with that one.

Think you own your own home?

Try not paying your mortgage, you will soon see who owns it

Own it outright?

Try not paying your council tax, then see who really owns it?

Hey Len

Yep, the LM is going great mate, thanks for asking!
