Petrol v Diesel costs ?
« on: June 10, 2013, 08:53:10 pm »
looking at the Honda GX390 petrol running 21 lpm, and a 10 hp Lombardi diesel 21lpm, which is £800 dearer !

Just wondered if anyone knew what the hourly running costs were for these machines, as this would help me make a decision with my budget ?

Any comments really appreciated, thanks.  ;D

The diesel one will be cheaper to run ...but the honda is not that thirsty maybe £15 for the honda and £10 for the diesel depending were you buy your fuel and  length/type of working day.

I have both a 13hp Honda running 15 ltrs and a !4hp Lombardini running 21 ltrs. The honda will burn 30 ltrs of petrol in the time the Lombardini will burn 11 ltrs of red diesel costing just £9.57. The Lombardini paid for itself in fuel savings within a year. The Lombo is heavier but quieter, electric start and runs about 6 hours on a tank - I mostly use a 55 turbo

Thank you for the replies, I do like the fact the diesel is quieter, and more economical, but the extra weight . . . . where is Harry Hill when you need him.

I run a gx390 at 15lpm and it cost me around £12 a day and I would say that's around 6 hours machine use.

Also, someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure a 10hp diesel it slightly to under powered to get the full 21lpm.

About 160-170 Bar. Been there and done it. Still good flow though.

Arr yea, that was it.
U had to use a bigger nozzle which reduced the pressure as the engine didnt have enough power to fire through the correct nozzle Size (smaller) without stalling the enging
