Other jobs on a rainy day
« on: February 23, 2006, 02:04:25 pm »
Its been another wet day and no work done.
No money has been earnt.
i know if i get my customers used to me working in the rain and explain it dosent affect the windows, i could probly work in the rain.
But i dont want to work in the rain.

So what my question is to all you windowcleaners that have been doing it for years is do you have others jobs or ways of makeing money when it rains.

And what is it. ?

Surely where not all sitting at home earning nothing when it rains.

Hi mate

I always leave my gutter, fascia and conservatory roofs to clean in the rain, not to nice cleaning gutters in the rain but at least you can earn some money.

Normally if it is a rainy day i just enjoy the day off and dont get stressed by it.
Although i have a big list of gutter jobs to do i will only do them if is has been a realy slack week.

I do not like getting wet at all.

Good idea to save all the "add-on" jobs for rotten days.

We have had some of our best earning days doing it this way. When we get say a cons roof job it usually isnt desperate so we have a list of this type of job. What we tell the customer is that we do these types of job on days that we dont normally clean windows on. We always have a good list of these so.. if we want to (As per what Dave says) :) we go out and earn good money instead of sitting at home. 3 or 4 well priced cons roofs an a wet/windy day can earn lots of £sss.

Having said all of this I haven't personally cleaned windows since just before Xmas last year  :(   The lads are happy though :)

Cheers

i'm not one for getting wet and as i still live at home with mummy i don't have loadsa bills to pay like a lot of you so i have the day off. the way i look at it, as long as you have a good monthly rate it don't matter to much and you can always make up a days work the next week if u wanted to.

i'm at home now cleaning up the fish, i hate that job!!! :(
Giving you a better view

The good thing about doing mainly commercial work is that there are always plenty of insides to do so rain's never been that much of a big deal.

I save up all my gutter cleaning jobs for rainy days and always have a good supply of these.

I don't clean windows in the rain as i feel bad about it.

But with the gutter jobs i just stick some waterproofs on and off i go.
Still earning good money.
Rain does not bother me i can always change my clothes and staying off work does not pay the bills

it cant rain every time i turn up, at the same time im not called

Its the origin of the expression "put something away for a rainy day"

You should be charging enough to cover the bad days. After all we get enough of them.
And despite what others may say, customers don't like you cleaning their windows in the rain. I've never known one who did.

Nel,

I know what that feels like with the Tax return.  :-\

As for what i do when it's raining. I've stopped telling the missus whether or not i'm working. Far to many chores for my liking.

I normally do a couple of gutter cleans like the rest of you. Today was the worst one i've ever done. Full to the brim and squirting out all over me.  :(

Still nice to be able to earn a few quid even you can't be cleaning windows.

Been cleaning windows in the rain and snow for the last two days, two body warmers on,water proofs, welly bobs, and rubber gloves, pre warmed by van heater, and away you go. not one complaint,so now I know that you can wfp in torrential rain with no effect on the state of the windows.+ THEY GET THE FINAL RINCE FOR NOTHING ;D

Dave, something we agree on! ;D

I've done sod-all this week really, but who cares? I've had a lazy week!
Did a few shops today as they're done all weathers, but other than that, a day off.
So that'll be a whole 30 mins today.  :P

Too cold yesterday, so I gave up at 12.
God I love being the boss. (of myself ;D)

God made pubs for rainy days, go down the pub chill out and get your self more prepaird for what lies ahead when its not raining.
Dont argue with a retard, they will just pull you down to their level and beat you with experience.
