I have just had a call from a nice lady that wants a rug cleaned 140cm X 160cm or 4 sqm, it's plain in colour and 100% wool,

the label requests the item be shampooed only, so explained that wouldent be a problem, then she asked how much and that she was phoning for a friend "no not Chris Tarent", so I explained id like to survey first but I think she was a shopper and just wanted a price.

I Esstimated £50 without looking at it, for collection, cleaning, drying and returning

Am on the right lines what would you guys charge

i would clean it for 30 in-situ or less if she was having carpets cleaned at the same time,  for pick up and return you would of course want more, 50 is a fair price,

i say your spot on there, 

but i know some would charge more.

I knew the woman was just shopping for prices and I knew I wouldent get the job, I could of charged a lot less as I would of done it at home in front of the telle, but couldent bring myself to it but regreting it now

Am I hearing your prices right?!
A 4m sq. rug is £120 or £140 protected. It takes an hour to vacuum it with a Kirby or longer if it's lived on a hard floor for any great length of time. Then the cleaning and drying and wrapping and dropping back off again.
Dont be squemish. Metre prices £30 -35 for wool. £50+ for silk

Alan Brooker...............At last, what we should all be charging for cleaning area rugs.......... At least a minimum for a rug of no less than a hundred would have been some sort of acceptable...... And to de-dust or vac a rug can easily take an hour.....remember, you should only stop de-dusting when no more dust and soil comes out. I use a dusting machine and that can take an hour or so.. people phoning up just for a rug are a bl**dy nuesense! had one today who thought i would go round to clean hers for £10 ! she misssed my £30 min order on leaflets, so when i metioned £30, "how much!" she said  "oh il have to think about it"     can you belive it!!!  and if you knew were she lived, well you could nt get a flat for less than 250k there!

Well how things change  :

Im a happy man today, got a ring yesterday from the lady who wanted the rug doing, apparently I sounded the most proffessional  but not the cheepest so I insisted of a survey first, went round and looked, it turned out to be 100% arcrlyic and only a few years old not hundereds, so done a few tests with M/S etc and finaly quoted £75 and took the rug with me cleaned it this afternoon with HWE with a naigbours as well £60 the old kirby hasnt worked so hard in ages

Chris The Acrylic one took 1.5 hours and the naibours wool took over a 2 hours just kept getting more and more out of it, the old vac hasnt smelt right since
