What is with nearly everyone I speak to thinking that commerical work is the holy grail of window cleaning??!!

Does everyone think this?! This to me is madness 

I dont want the commercial vs domestic debate, just peoples perceptions of it can be very odd, why do you think this is

Yes, a windy I know- with almost 30 years experience was over the moon at gaining a local McDonalds at £20 a pop inside & out!! Had to be done at 5.30am too!

Cleaning a Mcdonalds is probably more for kudos than actual earnings, which again i dont understand?!

"Oh but its such and such a company, it'll look good on our website" Great but I work for money cleaning windows, whos windows they are isnt necessarily of any interest to me.

Invoiceable work is not cash, takes a bit of admin, and you have to wait for a cheque, to bank the cheque and wait for it to be cleared....................................zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

If you had a company turning over a 1 million pounds per year, and you made the same margin from each, would you rather have a commerical or a domestic customer base?! Simples.............surely

Each has its pros and cons.

Personally I quite like my 70/30 Commercial/domestic mix but I don't clean any macdonalds for £20 a pop. Each to their own though.

My run is 99% domestics, with 2 or 3 shops thrown into the mix.

I wasn't a great fan of commercial, until I covered a few shops for a friend a couple of weeks ago while he was on holiday.

I actually enjoyed doing them, so afterwards I canvassed a few shops who haven't got a windy (at least that's how the windows looked), and left my number with them.

some medium size commercial jobs i clean  like offices and childrens nurseries are really good earners for time taken to clean.prompt payment as well usually.no waiting 30 days to get paid!!

just depends what type of commercial mate.

im personally not bothered about shops and cleaning windows at 5am etc but i would gladly take on more offices etc.

i am mostly domestic though.

what I like about domestic if you lose 1 house it's 10+ you can live with that but if you put your eggs in one   basket it could be you lively livery

pros and cons for each,

good thing i find with my commercial work is good payers and money on time, can do them any weather without a 'not today', good wage from them,
like others said, if you loose them its a good chunk of money lost!

local firm just lost council contract in our town to national, estimated value of £50,000.00 for the 2 years!

Im about 15% commercial at the moment but would like to be up to about 30%.

Currently pushing residential with door knocking and leaflets so this commercial increase may be some time away yet.

All of my commercial stuff has come by word of mouth or right place right time but will be actively chasing it very soon by a few different methods.

Treat every commercial clean as the last one in my head so if it goes im not too bothered my biggest could be replaced with 12 decent  residential monthly jobs so not end of world if I lost it.

It really depends on what type of commercial work it is? I personally have never gone after shops or small businesses as a good domestic client is more loyal and usually better paying - also there is only one 5.30 in my life!

Currently my window cleaning rounds consist of about 5% domestic and of these about 95% pay by standing order.
