to get featured at the top is about 1000 per year, from memory.
Not worth the monoey in my opinion.
We had the spot underneath the top two ads and got 7 business calls from it in a year, the rest were salesmen calls.

Add me to the 'not worth it' pile. Waste of money which won't be recouped in my experience. Spend on your own SEO instead for far better results.

Top three listing over £1600 year Next seven listings are about £10 month and it rotates where you appear in list.  Personally i think its worth it i picked up one custy which probably paid advert for whole year. I get about 2-3 calls a month.

We went for it late last year, £18 per month for the first year, dunno what it will be after this, probably loads!!!!!

We come in the top few results if not top when Window Cleaner  and one of the 3 selected towns are put in. Again im sure this will change after year 1.

We have had probably 30 customer calls from it and got maybe 10-15 jobs from it so far.
The ad paid for itself after the fist customer we got so its almost like a free ad now!

Down sides are all the BLOOMIN sales call you get!

Oooooo that is shiny!!

Ian - Carrie maybe able to give answer as she deals with that side of biz

we had featured item last year as were 2nd on list - cost us around £600 due to the keywords required, which turned out to be useless  ::)roll  and had maybe 1 enquiry

got the price reduced this year with different keywords and had several calls so far this year, thing is you only need to get
1 big job to cover the cost...

When i google window cleaner Enniskillen (my local area) yell comes at top of listings and my website is on bottom half of 1st page after the business directories so decided to take the one which appears most under a few different key phrases and yell was at top 2 most of the time, so decided to take an heavy weight add with them which is £12 per month or with video £35 per month, (they make pro video with voice over ur pics and words which cost £400) which is added into ur monthly add over a year, anyway just went with cheap 1 which just went live at end of last week and have a few calls already. If you just leave landline number on yell they say they can tell how many calls are made to you through there add, im guessing its people searching and ringing through mobile phone with internet access.
Heres an interesting video on who clicks what google, paid adds get very little, top of organic listing is were you want to be<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/PQZXYtqwBmo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Wayne.

I've advertised previously in a couple of different catagories and also the Wife had been with them with her hairdressers, we were well out of pocket year after year.

My opinion is that they are in a dying trade as google and the web has taken away the need for a giant catologue of numbers.

The new sales ploy that folk have to be aware of is the "we must come and meet you in person" attack, they are cunning, cut throat and really hard to get rid of if you arn't street wise and savvy.

I wish my missus had got he's direct number, I'd have rang him, then rang his bloody neck >:(

We have just increased our Yell (Hibu) adverting, the way it works on Yell (internet) is the top 3 positions which cover you for all towns and postcodes within your Yellow Pages Book area are called "Sponsored Listing", you will always appear in position 1, 2 or 3 when anyone does a search for a window cleaner in those areas, however you do pay big bucks for these but generally get other bonuses free (free Yellow pages ad, video, call monitoring, second number, etc)

We have just bought position No 3 for "upholsterers" in the Newcastle book area, goes live on 15th March.  It is expensive but the job value is expensive and 4 jobs throughout the year will  pay for it.

Next you have "Heavyweight Listings" these sit below the sponsored listings and rotate depending upon how many others have bought heavyweight listings, you can buy it as a "whole book" area, or as individual towns that you want to target and you pay accordingly depending on the size of the town/city, minimum is £20, max is several hundred.

Next is "Mediumweight listing" sitting below Heavyweight and similar in how you buy them and choose them

Finally are the free listings.

We have found that people don't necessarily go directly onto Yell to find us, however Yell always appears on the front page of nearly all searches and people then click into Yell and find us through that.  If you have your website on Yell it will also help increase your natural ranking on Google.

I would still say that we get about a 10:1 return on our Yell investment and am hoping to increase that this year with the new advertising in the different sections, we'll have to wait and see, it could be  :) or  :'(
