Upgrade to an envirodri, the brushes come off.

Can't imagine having to try cleaning without removing the brushes, nightmare.

I did upgrade to an Envirodri Gen 4 a few years ago and the job it does is far superior, but I wouldnt buy another one now. They are not built to be used as an agitating machine, so I was told by a very defensive (and offensive) lady at Envirodri the other day.
The body doesnt like to get damp and starts to crack and fall to pieces slowly, they used to send me a replacement while they repaired it, but it looks like those days are over.
