Suffering with cowboys? We're not the only ones
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:04:20 pm »
I had a call from a for an EOT from a lady a couple of days ago.

Unfortunately, I could not fit her in before she moved out but she asked some advice on pricing, what sort of method etc.

I said to watch out for people who are entering the business without training etc and her reply really shocked me.

She said her other half was a qualified gas fitter and that loads of people were setting up without training! Apparently people are buying fairly cheap testing kits and setting themselves up to do maintenance checks / overhauls whilst undercutting the qualified people. That's scary.  >:(

I think they are called British Gas.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Yes they are called British Gas, they called to service my boiler and left a water leek, they called back to fix it and left a gas leek !.
I had to call the emergency number for the fast response team, gas was leeking at good old rate.
Can the cowboys be any worse  ::)roll

I was speaking to an old BG engineer who was retiring. He said they are sending out boys with the absolute minimum knowledge for annual servicing schemes. Most of the decent guys leave after a few years to go it alone.

They do great adverts though.  ;D
