I cleaned a hand knotted Tibetan wool rug last week .......... it was fairly new and cost £1115 per square metre  :o

It did contain silk and was a Matthew Williamson design but The Rug Company do sell Tibetan wool only items !!

You need to take it to an oriental rug shop for an evaluation. Have you downsized or something? ???
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

I can see the image now, looks nice but impossible to value here. Big rugs have an inherent value, just look on ebay and tat that size sells for £200-£300 so certainly more than that even if its rubbish. Does look good though, get two valuations from rug shops that only sell orientals.

Aah, if it was a different colour it'd be worth more.

As it is, I'll give you £50 for it. But you'll have to let me know straight away, cos my manager won't hold that deal after today.

So i have been informed,  it is worth £2000 at most, maybe closer to £1500. if it is a 9 x 12 that would be most unusual, a dealer would give you about 7 to 800 for it

I'm by no means an expert but I know a lot of people have misconceptions about what second hand rugs are worth.  In "as-new" condition, never been on a floor or walked over, it may have some value but if it's been used it's worth nowhere near what you think.  It isn't a rare antique, only the rare, old orientals hold or appreciate in value.

If it's in a very nice condition a rug dealer may offer you something for it, if they thought they could sell it on for a profit, but they wouldn't offer you much I don't think.  Maybe you'd get a couple of hundred quid on eBay if you stuck it out for the right bidder.

Having said all that, there's one born every minute so you may get lucky and find someone willing to rip themselves off for the pleasure of owning it!
