« on: February 17, 2013, 04:24:04 pm »
Hi a client of mine has wall to wall pure silk, cut pile corale carpets in sitting rooms and 5 bedrooms. the carpet has a soft very fine cut pile and Light corale colour. I have told her that i will investigate the best cleaning methods so one point of call is you guys especially you TACCA pro's so any advice will be appreciated if i'm uncomfortable to do it i will pass on to tacca members. This is at my clients private home so I want to be 100% sure.

How sure are you it is silk?
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Nigel Woodhead would be the man to speak to about this

It could be artificial silk. ie viscose.

Take care on this one.

If you can, obtain a sample either from the client or the manufacturer.

I did a blood spill on one recently and it was strictly zero moisture.

Must admit I'd hwe it but I did do one before Xmas and low moisture cleaned it as it had been cleaned by the customer and had gone brown so I used Jamie's release it with hydrox.

they are pure silk my client is an investment broker and if you see there house and furnishings they only but the best. I did their baby room on Friday which is 6 X 5m white wool shag no real marks dried it completely befor i left and used HWE on warm client was happy. Paul once ive made more enquiries and if confident i will do it start with one room to see result. The client is getting info obout the manufacturer/supplier so hopefully i will contact them and get their advice soon. Thanks for offering and I will certainly keep you in mind.

More likely to be part silk, still very very expensive and a bit out of my league. It has a name but I can't think what at the minute. If it comes to me I'll post it.

I have a friend that has one, cost thousands and is beautiful but had terrible pile reveral in places after just a few months.

I wouldn't even think about HWE on it. At a push maybe VLM, but then after making absolutely certain of the best way via the manufacturer.

My advice then, speak to the manufacturer.

Hi William, do your tests and it's easy and very lucrative.  Use HWE.  The secret is to continually set the pile while force drying. If you can get one, use a 'whole room dryer'. If you don't rake when it's drying, or you miss a bit, it will dry with a 'wet teddy' texture. David.
