A cheap way to get photos on your vehicle.

When i had my vehicle sign written, i asked about the possibility of having coloured transfers put on, but was told a 12 x 12 inch transfer was around the £100 mark,

I got 25 sheets of photo paper (Glossy) in tesco for £5 and printed out a picture of my truckmount on best quality setting on A4 size. Next thing to do is to get the clear film that the kids cover their exercise books in, and place the A4 picture onto the paper side of the clear film. Mark around your picture giving you around an inch border and cut your film to this side.

Peal the paper off the clear film then place your photo face down onto this carefully to get rid of bubbles. Place this onto your vehicle carefully, smoothing out the air bubbles. If you want bigger pictures, buy a big A3 printer.

These will last on your vehicle as well as being pressure washed and would take a long time to fade. They are also easy to remove. If they look like they are coming off, simply smooth them down to remove any trapped air.

Sorry if people think this is daft, but please remember i am a 1970s telly watching blue peter fan from the days when peter purves had long hair and it was not grey, and noksey was ther as well as val. I did switch to magpie later though.

I was in PC Worldl last week thinking along the same lines as you.


They also sell some Magnetic  Signs Blanks to go through your printer.

So I was considering expermenting  with book covering film, also thought about spraying it with that spray you use for Fixing Art.

On the other hand your idear is good as long as the paper does not diintergrate with the damp ,as Magnetic Signs are dodgy at speed.

How lomg have you had yours on your van?

4 months Ian and they are still stuck fine. They withstand being powerwashed as well. As long as the border is equal all the way around, say 1 inch, they look professional. Best of all, you can change them if they become faded, but i think this would take a long time.

Regarding magnetic media, i have seen this in woolworths and this can be printed by ink jet. With printers, if you go to your local staples, what they can't sel they reduce. Normally an A3 printr is quite expensive but after a discount is cheap. I never buy ink cartridges, but fill them up myself. Hope this helps.

Ive got several printers, but have just got an Epsom Photo RX425
Has seperate cartridges for each colour and replacements are about £10 each.

It has one of those sensor things

Again I saw in PC world a devise for overiding the sensor on some cartridges when you refil.

Never had a lot of success at refiling Cartridges plus family panic as they like the real thing.

When i asked in PC World about DIY refil and what you do the advise was no idea.


So have you evor used one of these chip overides

Yes Ian, a company called jr ink supplies them for about £6. It tells the chip on the cartridge that they are full up. Cartridges are a big rip off. You buy an expensive machine at a cheap price then get hit with the cartridges.

There is also a conversion kit for certain printers whereby pipes from large ink bottles are fed straight into the cartridges, and every time you trn the power on, it think's it is a new cartridge. Obviously cheaper to bulk buy ink.

Tesco at one time were selling black ink on it's saver range range, for £1.99 but have since put the price up. If you have a Morrisons store near you, sometimes they sell the jr ink kits at buy one get one free.
