balustrade cleaning
« on: January 04, 2013, 03:59:20 pm »
Hi all .I've been asked to clean the balustrades at one of the departments stores to clean the balustrades on both sides .the front is not a problem but the back is a bit tricky.the lower side of it there is a lot of dirt built up and i can't access it with the hands .I suspect is because of the cleaners as they are using the mops to clean the ledge. The company i sub it from suggest it some sort of access platform or scaffolding  but they want me to try and use some sort of pole with non scratch scourers as like i said it's to high to access it by hand.

So i'm asking you what method and detergents i could use to do the job quicker and better as i also have to quote for the job.

Thank you

Sometimes just standing on a very low footstool will enable you to reach over although I usually use a short pole with the squeegee or cloth attatched (locking type squeegee is best)
I would imagine a wagtail would also work well and it would also catch most of the water.
Soaping up using a chopped down doodlebug works very well.

+1 of the vikan - altho i suggest you clean each panel twice on the first clean and buy plenty as once they are dirty they can smear
rather than clean

i do longer use pure water on them but white vinegar as i get better results

thank you for your replies.standing on the ledge or stool is a no no due to h&e.i already tried the pole and aplicator method but it doesn't make much difference.like i said there is a lot of build up dirt on lower sides of it.
