SLX-25
« on: December 20, 2012, 05:03:13 pm »
Just received a new SLX-25 from Gardiners I've not used one for a year or more as we have been using the Extreme-25 poles, I've assembled the pole, dual trim sill brush and 10" carbon gooseneck and spent some time trying to adjust the clamps to the right torque so that they hold the sections without spinning but aren't too tight when opening up sections, but I have found that the adjustment bolt is as tight as you can get it but you can still get the pole sections to spin if you twist them?  can anyone who has bought a new SLX recently advise on whether this is normal for this pole? haven't had chance to use it yet so perhaps it'll be fine once we start working with it.

Have you got the barrel nut the right way round as the thread seems to start nearer the hole on one side? If you catch my drift

Not sure tbh? but I'm sure they'd be assembled the right way around before being dispatched but I'll have a look tomorrow. Might just be that I'm used to working with the SLX so it just feels different? the sections weren't spinning when extended but would spin when the pole sections are at closed length.

I needed a new pole for a new employee and didn't want to splash out on an Extreme 25 as new employees seem to have the knack at trashing poles for the first few months in training  ;D

I've never had that problem with Gardiner poles, difficult to understand what the problem is from your description. Give Alex an email/call and he'll be able to sort it out quick.

I've also been using Gardiners poles and have had many over the years.

When you close up all the pole sections and give them a slight twist they will spin so are not holding. The adjustment screw is as tight as possible so will not allow for any further tightening.

Probably be fine once we start using it tomorrow.

Yeah, you could be right there Simon, giving the plastic a work out might help bed things in and free up adjustment. A bit odd though.
The only reason I mention the barrel nut on the clamps is because I got myself a new set for my slx and noticed that when I assembled one, the screw protruded out of the end far more than the others and it was harder to tighten. I spun the nut 180° and it was okay.

Sounds very odd to be honest Simon. I've had two SLX25's & neither were like that, both clamped up with plenty of adjustment still left to go.

I'm sure Alex will be along soon to sort it with you.

Hi Simon

Could you email me your mobile number to alex@agardiner.co.uk and I will see if we can work out what is wrong.

Alex

Thanks again for the advise you gave me yesterday over the phone. I have adjusted the clamps as you described and after a full days work today the clamps are doing exactly as they should.

Thank you

Simon

New employee will not know how to treat the finest pole in the world.

When he knows how to use and self maintain a pole whilst in use I will think about issuing an Extreme pole.

We have a whole load of Gardiner poles, from two section 8 feet, Extreme 25's with extension sections, Extreme poles to 70FT. SLX-25 with extension sections and my all time favorite pole to work with an SL2 56 FT.

A couple of the adjustment screws needed some extra tightening because they are brand new. I used some soft nose pliers to get that extra torque and after one of my window cleaners used it all day Friday it's working a treat.
