Bloody varistream!!
« on: December 07, 2012, 08:04:22 am »
Been having with what I thought were pressure switches.
I would work all day and on final job I'd loose pressure or
Pump would just stop after a few seconds... I replace switch
And had to keep swapping to spare controller and pump...
I've now realised its the controller .!! Yesterday I was halfway through
Cleaning a nightmare con roof when it packed in again!!
I had loaned my spare pump and dial controller out.. Typical grrr
I wire pump straight to battery , hey presto it worked
Without fault . Bloody controller grrrrrrrr
Thinking of doing away with controller and just wireing in
A switch . Can anyone see a prob with this?

if your using 8mm hose back pressure will eventually kill the pump, unless you got the aquatec or flojet pump! shurflo pumps wont last two mins.

another problem ive encountered is that the shurflo pump pressure switch always die all mine have burnt out smoked out the van infact each time.

on top of that the battery will last only 1/3 of the normal time with out a controller buy a new one that is digital! ive loved these ones so far just on a year and 1/2 ive had mine. controller is the way forward! i know it seems easier to just bypass it but the pros and cons say to just get one!

Why are you using a pressure switch when using a Varistream? You do not use a pressure switch when using a Varistream, that's the whole point of the darn thing.

Also, 8mm and Shurflo pumps work just fine, mine is 5 years old and used for the most part 8mm hose.

5 years ago, just assumed it was the right way as they're the experts

Okay, so it's probably the same one as mine, the original digital varistream.

Here are the installation instructions, as you can see, the pressure switch isn't wired in at all.

In the 5 years I've used my 100PSI Shurflo (pretty sure it's the 8000-946-138) I've never had a problem with the actual Varistream or pump, the only time I had issues is when I originally set up the system using scotch-lok crimp connectors, they fail miserably over time, resulting in all sorts of problems. Best to use normal crimp connector (bullet or blade)

If you've got any of them in your system, do away with them as well.
