Anyone had a Bulging neck disc
« on: November 23, 2012, 08:18:15 am »
Morning all,

Got told on Monday that I have a bulging disc in my neck.

Has anybody else had this and how did it effect your window cleaning?

Cheers,

Gordon

A Fiend has 2 right at the top of his neck he was 24 when this happened. He has been signed off for life, as the say to operate on him is to risky.

Who told you? and have you had a scan?

Roy

Morning Roy,

I had an MRI done last sunday, spoke to my gp on monday and they said I was to be referred, they said it was between c6 and c7 which is half way down my neck.

Not seen a consultant yet just thought i would start getting info on it.

I'm mainly trad and it's on the side that I carry my ladders so just toying with different options as to how to manage it.

The GP didn't seem to think it was to bad, to be honest I rather wait and talk to a consultant.

Regards,

Gordon

Ive had buiging disc at levels c5 , c6 and c7 which became prolapsed , the c5 level was pressing onto the nerve and was giving me a lot of pain down my left arm my left hand was constant pins and needles and numb , this had a bad effect on doing work of any kind .
I had a operation done this has helped slightly , theres not a day gos by without suffering from any pain this could be slight pain to severe pain .
While the disc was bulging i just used to carry on as normal it was when they become prolapsed that things changed , i was on loads of diffrent tablets which helped a bit BUT made me feel crap in otherways .
just take it steady because if it ends up prolapsed you will wonder whats happening , when mine became prolapsed all the symptons are just like having a heart attack , i started with bulging disc in 2000 it was around 2005 when they became prolapsed had the operation in 2008 still make regular visits to the hospital , had further mri e-rays done in june this year to find i now have further problems at c2 and c3 levels .
You take it steady mate as it will only get worse .

Thanks D S,

Sorry to hear that, i think I'm in ghe early stages of it all.

Are you trad or water fed, I was toying with converting more of my round but you hear alot of people complaining about sore shoulders and neck when using water fed so not sure if it would help or not?

Gordon

Gordon, I too have a buggered back and neck from a car crash, wfp saved my business I would rather ache a little and be safe on the floor than ache up a ladder and fall

Hi Ian,

Did carrying the ladders made your neck ache?

Does using wfp make your neck ache les?

Gordon

yes it was the movement of getting them on and off that caused me problems then going up them i didnt have confidence in my back.
I had to stop using them for a while as I was told if i slipped from a couple of rungs up i could paralyse myself from the neck down, tbh that put me off  ;D
With wfp and this part is serious, using glass fibre poles was a nightmare for me, I changed to carbon SLX and they are fine it is the bending in the pole that was causing me problems not the weight of it, vikan sill brush and standard brushes went out the window i use Super lite brushes again from Gardiners (no one else makes them yet so thats all that are available)

I was trad at the time , i was that bad i ended up renting my work out which was a big mistake doing that , but it was the only way i wouldnt lose work in the end i sold my work on .
After re -starting i went wfp which is a lot better when looking up my neck is more comfortable .
I hope you can get it sorted before it gets worse but with it only bulging its highly unlikely that anything will be done .

Thanks for the info chaps, just had a phone call and I have an appointment December the 13th so hopefully I'll get some answers regarding how bad it is.

Cheers,

I got bulging biceps if that helps.

Neck ache comes with the job I'm afraid looking up for long periods. I'm a back sufferer but my Physio thinks wfp actually helps my back due to being stretched and looking skywards helps to put some arch into it rather than being bent over all day.

No wonder you have bulging biceps if your playing with your pole all day :o
