Looking to get a new Sat Nav been looking at the ones on eBay 7” screen with free maps updates from £43quid or so (I know unbranded name)

Has any one brought one and how do you rate it?

i use my Samsung Galaxy SG3, 5" screen, free updates. it also works with google calendar, so the booking i have in calendar are clicked and go straight through to the sat nav feature. brilliant, simple and apart from my phone charges  which i have anyway  its free.
ps.. and because its always the latest edition of google maps, so far, its never failed me, ha haaaa, maybe i shouldn't tempt fate. ;D

Like Derek I use mine as well but not that
often, it don't half flatten the battery and
I haven't got an in van charger...yet....
Most of the time look them up on Google
the night before..I know all the main areas
and streets so can usually just look it up and
say yes I know where that is.

I bought one (Mio) from Tesco, cost about £50 and works great - except the unit doesn't fit into the cradle when it's charging.

I had my tom tom stolen from the van on monday!!

rushed out and bought a cheap binatone for 45 from argos.......

really wish I'd not bothered and paid the extra for another tom tom, it gets you from a-b but is really unresponsive when nearing roundabouts corners etc

cant add maps or speed cameras etc ((plus the kids loved hearing darth vader or yoda giving directions which you cant do on this one lol))

But like I said, at the end of the day it gets you from a - b

I would get a Tom Tom and take the argos one back 14 day no quibble.

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Hi Guys

I have the Tom Tom with live traffic updates and it is excellent.

I can check for traffic problems and it redirects or if I know the area well, such as A13 into the City I can make a judgement of whether to divert or not.

I wouldn't be without it now, saves lots of time and hassle.

Cheers

Doug

It'll do Wynne a-b and all that  ;)

Was pretty much called a relic for using a satnav by Derek West, recons the smart phone is the way forward and as my phone contract is up for renewal at the end of month I might give it a go.

Word of warning to anyone with a satnav though, hide the window fixing bit,my tom tom was in the glove compartment and they smashed the window on the off chance it'd be in the cab (police said most people leave them under seats or in glove compartment). was worth about a tenner after the dog had chewed it but ended up costing me over £200 to repair the window and replace the stuff they took!!

The only live traffic update in York Doug is that there will be traffic EVERYWHERE  ;D

Co pilot on iPhone. It's about a tenner and live traffic is 6 quid a year.

I've got the Garmin Nuvi, one of the top end ones and its utter crap. It makes me turn off a motor way and then straight back on again.

Gave the standard map on the iphone 4s today and that was brilliant
