why is my 40FT SUPERMAX bendy?
« on: November 08, 2012, 06:33:34 pm »
i bought a 40ft SUPERMAX a few months ago and it does come in handy for a few large domestic and commercial jobs but when its at full stretch cleaning solar panels on roofs or velux windows it seems to bend a lot like a fibre glass pole?i use an extreme brush or  gardiners sill brush on a carbon gooseneck and would of thought it would be a lot more rigid as its 100% carbon fibre? ???

also if i took 3 sections off would its be as light and rigid as my 25 ft SLX and would it be the same size length wise?

many thanks in advance guys

I bought one a a few months ago and really disappointed with how bendy it is so my recommendation is don`t buy one if you "DON`T" want a bendy pole

all poles can be bendy at height.

I find the Supamax one of the best, I have a 40' a 45' a 50 and a 60

all perfectly useable

Gravity is the answer!

If you removed the bottom 3 sections you would have exactly the same pole as your SLX25 (minus the insulated handle layer). It would be just as rigid and just as light. Lack of rigidity becomes much more pronounced the higher you go.

Here is a link from Racenstein in the US showing how the Super-Max40 outperforms other poles (they call it the SLX40 - same pole) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiQ5Q4LmLB4&feature=share&list=ULwiQ5Q4LmLB4

To show you the difference in rigidity here is a link to a video showing the bend difference between the Super-Max50 and the Xtreme47. Racenstein in the US recently tested the Xtreme poles against all other poles on the market and it was the most rigid pole available. However the Xtreme range is quite a bit more expensive.

Your angle for cleaning solar panels  at 40ft is alot more horizontal than when you would use it for cleaning windows at 40ft hence the bend.
Try a scaffold bar for zero bend  ;D

Dazmond - they all bend at those heights even the Xtremes, just a fact of life. That last pole that touched the ground looked good  :o

Quite often use my Xtreme at near horizontal at 35 feet. It's a fair bit stiffer than the smax.

I like the supermax because we can clean some really high flats, and still use the pole to do the lower and ground floor
flats as it is so light.

Hi Samson,

Is that with your hair long or short?   ;D

I find the SLX40 too heavy for me to do that. Once I have used mine to do the top windows, I'll usually put it away and then take out my SLX22 for the 1st and ground floor windows which I find more comfortable.

Well I had previously been using the Brodex 36ft hydra for a couple of years . . . .so I must have built up my shoulder strength  ;)

You can't help the angel of the dangle when your poles that long mate.

If you cleaning skylights and over big conservatory's I sussed out that if I hold it over my head it making it bow the other way. This saves taking a big chunk out of the guttering like what I did first time. Also to rinse almost horizontal at full extension I stand on the end of the pole and pull it like a fishing rod to get the gap between the window and brush. I'm self taught and that's what I've worked out through experimenting.

I would love to see a video of how the SL2 stacks up against the Xtreme. :)
