Dreaded collecting again!!
« on: September 28, 2012, 09:15:46 am »
Hi
Picked up a lot of work from a bloke who packed in windows.
Trouble is he collected nearly everything Thursday and Friday evening and weekends too.
I've switched a lot over to bacs but some don't do it, some don't have cheques.
Some are so badly trained they expect to pay Thursday or Friday evening even when they are in when I clean!
Don't say drop them I can't afford to at the moment.
The worst thing about collecting I find is - even when I have asked the best time to catch them in they are not in and a wasted journey.
I thought about leaving a note whenever I miss them - 'cos I realise it may pee me off but they don't even know I've been!!
Something along the lines of
"Window Cleaners
Hi, we’ve called today but no one was home!
To save us a wasted journey
Could you please phone or text us to arrange payment or best time to collect?
Thanks"
Any ideas or other suggestions welcome -  with winter coming I am dreading collecting in the dark and ice!!!!

What about an online payment Page on your website linked to PayPal?

All they need is a debit card and Internet access
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

I collect once a week, it works out at half hour for every full day day I was out cleaning that week. If they are not in it just means they owe me for twice next time. Or thrice the time after.

As long as they don't sell up and move or die then eventually I get my money.

Thanks all :)
Hi JackieW
Is your work local? Even so it still works out at 2 to 2 1/2 hours per week and the transport costs plus as I've said the frustration of wasted time/ journeys.
Do you find any problems with them owing you for two cleans?
I have some £40 jobs I wouldn't like them to get up to two cleans and deffo not up to  3!!!

Hi Granny.

Round is compact and although I'd rather not have to go out collecting I view it as part of the job. It is a very good way to keep it personal with my customers. I rarely work 5 full days anyway, so it is a max of 2 1/2 hours.

Some customers owe for 3 or 4 visits. I stress to them that I'm not worried about it mounting up as long as they're not. If they are they can always post me a cheque.

I would tell them from a certain date you will reducing the amount of payment collecting at night time due to time & costs involved, please use one of the methods listed, if you are unable to use any of the methods listed we might have to increase our prices to cover to cover our cost and time involved in collecting payments.

You need to give them a push  ;) ;) ;)

I've just sold a round of about 75 customers and all were collection but used to do it on a friday night till 7.

Not a problem as they were all used to the fri night collection.

Got 6 to go to after 6-30 hence sitting in nice park posting this.

Sold round this week and will miss the chatting with customers u get when u see em every month.

My other rounds are non collection and some customers I've never met in nearly 3 years.
