New van or 2nd hand?
« on: August 25, 2012, 09:06:28 am »
Hi, I need to get another van the one i have now is too small. Are there any real advantages to buying new compared to getting a quality 2nd hand van?

How do you know if its quality? Buy new and keep it longer, its your most important tool!

All depends on how much you're earning and how much available cash you have.

If doing well then look into buying or leasing as they're are some great deals out there on new vans.
If not ,and assuming you can do your own maintenance, then buy second hand.

If you buy a nearly new van with low mileage, then you will benefit by paying a much lower price because the depreciation will have come down a lot.

When I buy a van I keep it until it dies.

I would love to buy a brand new one, but that is out of the question for the foreseeable future. I also like classic vehicles, so the idea of running a classic van for work appeals to me.

I currently run a '99 Fiesta van, which is very clean and tidy. Maybe it will qualify for classic status in 12 years' time.  :D

When I looked in to buying a nearly new van I found the type of discounted deal I could get on a brand new one meant it made no sense to buy second hand. I found the same when i wanted to buy a nearly new car recently and ended up buying brand new for the same reason, plus you get a longer warranty.

Purchased a trafic on Friday, 61 plate silver with 17k miles on it - good deals on hp available with low flat rates. We bought our car new on hp with a balloon payment at the end, but that ends up ok if your chopping it in and continuing on with your next car purchase, I didn't want to do that with the van so went for straight forward hp over term own outright at the end.

Has any one brought a new van online? Seem to be some decent deals online.
