I was quoted £80 per thousand on a solus drop last week.

Bloke was full of himself telling me how great his company was etc etc so I said

"yes that all sounds good I take it I get a copy of the tracking gps data"

errr you what .. erm we dont do that sort of thing

"oh ok tell me then what system your supervisors use then to make sure they all get delivered and not torched ?"

errrrr we dont have any supervisiors but we randomly call homes in the drop area to make sure all leaflets are delivered.

Me ... "bye"

in my experience the only way to check its being done right is to work out a long circular route on the map for the distribution and then drive  round periodically  in a borrowed car in disguise to find   where the leafletter is and see them doing it

I do it myself at the moment with my oldest daughter helping every now and then once she is 13 next april im looking at employing her as she wants to do a couple of hours a week she will earn more working for me than a paper round  ;)

Plus i might look a getting jog post to do 20,000 for me.

My total target for next year is 50 to 60 thousand leaflets delivered

at the moment I have 2 people doing my leaflets, at the moment about 5000 are going out, this I hope to increase upto 10000 per week.

I placed an advert on Gumtree and offered the following pay rates

£15 per 1000 plus £10 for any jobs I get from the leaflets, this include one off cleans.

I have had over 30 apply and all except one are appy with the rates I am paying, the one who wasnt started arguing straightaway, so he never got the interview.

A few have asked how many sales will I get from 1000 leaflets? this I have quoted on past leafleting campains I have done and what I found was that it takes 3 to 4 weeks of dropping leaflets before the phone rings on a daily/weekly basis with new enquiries, but once this period is passed I will get around about 11 new customers from 4000 leaflets.

This time I am using a completly different leaflet to show all my 4 cleaning services, instead of promoting my window cleaning with the others just listed as other services offered.

I divided the areas I want covering and so far 11000 leaflets have gone out, the polish girl in the north side has dropped 8000 leaflets while the local lad has dropped 3000 around where I live.

In the north I have had 15 telephone enquiries and only 2 in the south.

I have run out of leaflets and have to wait until friday for my printer to deliver another 15000, and he will be printing 15000 every 2 weeks for the next couple of months

Although I do have gps trackers thye are not being used just yet, the polish girl english is not too good and it was easier to just give her a map marking where she lives on it and telling her to just keep on dropping leaflets northwards.

The guy around my area did have the tracker but said he has problems getting online to send me the data, so when I drop of more leaflets I download what he has done straight onto my computer.

So far I am happy, I am getting a better uptake on my other services than I am use too and in 2 to 3 weeks the calls should start to come in greater numbers especially window cleaning calls.

i photocopy local street maps and give the leafletter a copy plus  a highlighter pen to colour in each street once its done as a record of where he has been

THIS IS IMHO

i today have had a change of leaflet personell.
after interviewing him and his business model i decided to try a change:

old guy out / new team in.
im only doing 3k per wk over 3 days to start    , i dont do free paper days.
over the last 6 months my old leafletter did 1k per day for 2/3 days.
on every single day he has dropped i have had 3-6 phonecalls for works immediatley.

today i have had not one call. for not sure as yet how many went out?????????

as ironic as it is the leafletter that my leafletter employs phoned me and asked me if i did council houses? to which i replied of course.
in our chat she said they ( mom & son) were going out this afternoon with my leaflets in an area near me but only when he gets back from shopping..

answerphone message left for leaflet man :(  no phonecall or text as yet )

=== my old leafletter is gonnna be releafletting from next week unless i hear the truth off new guy.

i quite like to sit and let the game play out, but at £90 per 1k  inc leaflets delivered am sitting quite agitated 2nite.          :-X     thats £270 per week to be unsure they are dropped   :-\ :-\ :-\

the answer really is " find = someone you can wholeheartedly trust or you will be messed about"

Are you serious 11 new customers from 4000? They can't be very compact. Try canvassing I get about 11 new customers per night with only 100 - 150 leaflets and very compact.

There is a bloke round here called Paul, he's a bit of a strange bloke but he's dead reliable and he delivers for £20 a thousand along with four or five other leaflets.

We are probably going to use him for something my wife is doing later in the year.

I think I stated it incorrectly, when I mean I get 11 calls when 4000 leaflets are being dropped on  aweekly basis, this does not mean that once the leaflettling stops, so do the phone calls, the opporsite is true, i still get calls from some people who have my leaflet and they need a window cleaner.

Which is great news until you find it's a leaflet that was dropped 3 years ago.

Canvassing is something I have tried and that also has ups and downs.

and as for the work being scattered, this is something I like.

i have gone for solus and non solus at half the price, the solus is imo only marginally better, i put my efforts into finding a reliable delivery company more that anything else, theres a company up here called nesbit, who are quality.

the way i think is i see a lot of leaflets every single day through doors, so whats the point in solo drops at double the price when someone else has already put leaflets in :-)

Its when you have a letter box on a porch and you can see a carpet of leaflets and pizza menus that have been accumulating for months.
