I use print mates ltd in redhill surrey. This has been the first time ive used them and they saved me 1/3 on my usual order - im very pleased.

We are based near gatwick and cover parts of surrey, sussex and kent.

of course we get messed around the same as anyone else on here does. I try to have the service explained as clearly as possible from day one. I also take a very black and white view. If we get messed around me than once or twice by a customer there gone, simple.

If you get 100 customers, a year later we may have kept 60 - 70 thats just the way it goes.

I like your posts Lee. Good advice for a newbie like me. Do you have standard leaflet ? What size is best and how much info do you have on there ?

In my opinion simple is best. Households are inundated with leaflets. Big BOLD - WINDOW CLEANING SERVICE - tel 0000000000000 for quote. Mine are comp slip size and underneath the main bit a short list of other services. Same on both side as whoever picks it up may not wish to turn it over before binning.

In my opinion, the complicated leaflets with numerous folds are self indulgence.

I have no interest in indulging myself at all. I simply want to make as much money as possible. I do what works for my business.

I am of the opinion that these days people want to know as much as possible about what their getting and how much it costs, my design does this extreamly well.

The other end of the size and design scale may work just as well for someone elses business, however I wont be changing any time soon.

I dont think they are self indulgent, they are a marketing tool, plain old leaflets work on some people just like tri folds do.

Standing out from the crowd is a must and I can totally see why Lee offers what he does, he gets a different type of customer call as they already know a lot about his service.
My guess is you have never tried using tri fold leaflets and print your own, sorry if I am wrong.

got to agree about the standing out bit...my wife did a folding leaflet for me
taking info off my website she had a couple of thousand printed off by a family friend as an experiment
these were promoting my con, gutter and fascia cleaning they looked professional and stood out.

i put a few hundred through existing customers doors...totally diffrent from the usual biz
card i use. the leaflets worked a treat made my services really stand out and have had
countless extra work off existing cutomers because of this.

look forward to your future posts...so i can keep stealing your ideas ;D

You are right that I have never tried using trifold leaflets although I have my leaflets printed on glossy paper, but they are simple. If I was selling  a range of pizzas I would  definitely have gatefold leaflets.

I didn't know that the OP was using complicated leaflets. I meant no offence. I think on the face of it what he has acieved is excellent, however I do feel that we windies can be a bit easily led at times.

Hi Lee,

How's the leaflet drops going?

I have sent out a small batch of leaflet with a local firm this week. In your opinion how long does it take to start getting some calls. I know it can take 12 months to see the results, I just want to gauge from the phone calls if the company I used was worth using again.

A good question with many factors.

lets say from your drop your going to get 50 customers. I tend to find that the first 25 of those will come in over 2-3 weeks and to next 25 over 2-3 months.

of course you get the odd one or two beyond that but that is my experience.

hope that helps.

Yeah thanks Lee,

I'm getting my leaflet redesigned next week with a bit more info on it and adding a few extra services. Armed with this information now I have a general rule of thumb so that I can get an idea of what to expect. I'm finding if I do a drop of 250 I get a call so I'm going to see if these figures marry up with that of the company that delivered them.

If everything adds up I will put out another 5000 in about 2-3 weeks and then another 5000 a week or so later then start building the numbers up. I may even get another company involved in the drops and compare the returns.
