Every day is a school day
« on: May 29, 2012, 04:56:53 pm »
I set off this morning and got to first house and found that my hose had been trailing on the road  >:((it comes out via a hole underneath the bumper of the van)  >:( so the male fitting was wrecked and I had no spares  :(. After kicking myself all over the garden of the customers house I set off to find a replacement phoning around as I went  ::).

Anyway two hours later I am frantic and still no replacement ... so I decide to by-pass it with a straight through connector and a car battery terminal clamp - from Halfords. It went together really well  :) snuggest connector in the pole hose this then almost fitted inside the reel hose with a hard twisting push - lube if necessary. Terminal clamp around the lot ... solid as a rock but ... no flow control at the pole end. Just thought I would pinch the pipe to stop hope for the best.

Guess what!

It speeded me up no end! Best system ever! Made up those two wasted hours easily 15-20 mins a house no bother at all splash and dash went back after to check and wipe all the downstairs  frames and sill with scrim (I can't be bothered chasing bits of dirt around frames with water - doesn't seem much point scrim is better) perfect results and it cost £2 saved 8 manhours a week I reckon! Brilliant!

Your school day is not over yet my friend! Cant be bothered chasing bits of dirt? what do you do on the tops? and if your gonna scrim dry a wet window thats gonna take alot longer than just rinsing it properly. Glad you were not defeated by your kit breakdown though. A+ for that.

Cheers for the reply

I meant all those bits that you start rinsing down and then they end up on the sill and then they bounce back up onto the glass and then they're back on the frame  ::) then you rinse some more and more dirt comes from a crevice (it drives me crazy!) then you can't quite get the frame corners with the brush etc ... it's like using a petrol leaf blower when a rake will do!

just a corner of scrim give the bottom frames a quick wipe (just where there is dirt mind!) get rid of any dislodged dirt on the sill (inspect the glass from different angles) makes the customer think you're a perfectionist. I can't see the upstairs so I don't worry as long as the glass is clean.

Try it tomorrow it'll speed you up!

We use triggers and when we get this problem just rinse then turn the water off, drag the bits out then a quick blast and they're gone.
Did this today and a gutter / fascia / window clean and it worked a treat.
