I have an 85 amp leisure battery which charges up from my van alternator on a split relay.  But I charge it once a week on a charger.  Normal battery charger is ok but you have to keep an eye on it.  Better to get one that states it's compatible for leisure batteries.  Also good to have one that trickle charges automatically when fully charged.  No risk of battery damage then.
I got mine from Halfords.  £35.00 for peace of mind.

Yes, got local garage to weld an old battery tray over wheel arch, so it's all fixed in nicely.  They ripped me off, but it's done.  When I charge the battery I just disconnect the terminals, connect up the charger in the van, backed up to the garage.  Plug in via extension lead.

We use an 85 amp liesure battery form John's Camping. It cost £45.

I connected it in series to the car battery but at tick over the hearse's dynamo cannot charge both batteries and a few times the hearse wouldn't start in the mornings because the batteries where pulling more than the stop/start of town traffic puts back into the batteries.

Also, after a few weeks it seemed the liesure battery wasn't being charged enough.

A car battery is designed for a big sudden push of current but a liesure battery is designed for a more sedate type of constant low current output and does little to start an engine.

The cars dynamo is designed to charge the battery that comes with the vehicle unless at higher revs.

So.... Every Friday I take out the liesure battery and charge it indoors with the proper charger and it seems to all work fine now.

Cheers

Do you have some one selling caravans locally. They will sell Lesiure Batteries.

I called in to  Sturat Longtons Caravans on the way to my mothers last week.
I walked out with an 85amp Lesiure Battery at the wallet freindly price of £35.00 incl vat with a 2year warranty.

They did a 120amp one for £55.00.

GREAT VALUE.
