starting carpet cleaning business
« on: August 21, 2005, 10:29:19 pm »
Hi, can anyone tell me the best way to go about starting a carpet cleaning business?
Is the pro chem 1 day course any good?
Can i buy a cleaner second hand for 500 quid?
What other equipment do i need?
how much is insurance?
Is a vw passat estate big enough?
Is there a god?

I went on the prochem one day course it is very good, cost  £100.
However if you purchase one of their machines from various suppliers the course comes free.I would recommend you start with a new machine the last thing you want is machine failing as you try to build up your business , a second hand one would be ideal for back up.On the insurance check the previous posts on this subject there is lots of advice, price range seems to be £200-£400.

On the insurance make sure that it is all risks or work in progress or treatment risk (it may be called different things) 3rd party insurance covers damage to items not being cleaned and is cheap. Treatment is a lot more. I am insured with HSBC as was by far the cheapest for full treatment risk to £5 000 000. (BT insisted on 5m.)

I pay £406  a year, but am covered for everything from kithchen cleaning, working at hights etc, I was starting to think this is a bit steep but I have no excess.

But you have to think, if I was pay £100 and not claim for a year, ive saved £300 for the next year and if didnt claim again, and so on and so on, but I would have to make sure that I always had that £500 excess sitting in the bank, just in case

Hay the excess might be high but id be better off, and how often am I likely to make a claim and how likely are they to pay out

Havent got a clue scott you would have to ask them.
Works for me though.

Costs peanuts
Looks good to customers
Means you aint gotta worry about a big claim that could send you under

Obviously none of us plan on ever using the insurance with any luck anyway.
And if the worst does happen you only end up a couple of hundred quid out of pocket, its only a couple days work.

To be honest i wouldnt even bother claiming if it was much less than that anyway
