Steam
« on: June 13, 2012, 08:57:43 am »
Hi, I'm new on here so please go easy on me.

I run a small cleaning business in the Midlands and - as the perceived expert in cleaning among my social circle - I've had a number of enquiries recently asking me if I use steam in my day to day.  The catalyst for these questions have been the recent spate of ads from the likes of Black and Decker and Shark, advertising their steam mops to the general public.

However, this has kind've got me thinking.  Am I not missing a trick here?

Do any of you guys ever get asked or use it?

Worth adding a cheap one to your kit. If you find the need to use it lots then upgrade to a more industrial one, maybe even with a built in vacuum.

We have a few small ones and a slightly larger Karcher. To be truthful I was going to buy a full industrial one a while back but the Karcher is good enough for what we use it for. In general these are used rarely though.

Unlikely you'll need anything heavy so something like this will most likely do, for now: -

Very basic:

Steam cleaners have their place but they're often oversold. If you use them for small awkward areas (particularly tiling grout etc) they're great but when you see the domestic ones magically cleaning ovens and carpets you've really got to ate the ads with a pinch of salt so to speak

I would agree with this, steam cleaners have their place for specific cleaning tasks such as grout lines but very often are touted as a magic solution to all cleaning problems which is not the case. I'd recommend Gareth that in addition using the steam cleaner you should take a look at microcleaning pad technology.

Its so effective when it comes to deep cleaning surfaces
