hi,
a friend has a river boat, asked me to have a look at the ceiling which is leather. The boats about 25 years old ,has a cooker and thelikes in it.The leather is cream and looks dirty, but i applied some prochem leather cleaner and got no transfer of dirth, tried a little ultrapac in a hidden area to see if it was from cooking or the diesel engines ,still nothing.Anyone know is there anything i could try, thanks Brendan.

This will really depend on the type of leather. Check with a microscope and see. What happened when you used the cleaners - was the cleaner absirbed ir did it sit on the surface?
If you have an absorbent style of leather ( aniline) then all the dirt etc is likely to have been absorbed by the leather in which case you will not be able to remove the absorbed dirt.
If it is a pigment coated leather using a foam cleaner like Strong Cleaner or Maxi Cleaner will allow for dwell time which will gibpve a much more effective clean. If this does not work then there are other problems going on that are not cleaning problems.
Hope this helps

Do you have any photos as there may be something that can be done.

I've never seen or heard of a boat with a Leather headlining. Its likely to be leather looking Vinyl. Leather would be so impractable for boat use due to the constant humidity which would lead to mould and decay in the Leather.
If it is the original and has been exposed to cooking fumes, engine fumes and general use then it is probably permanently damaged and requires renewal.

He sounded pretty sure it is aniline.
Plenty of leather on the boats down here John.
