been phoning around all day and no one will insure for 1000 litre tanks. what the F*** is going on?  even a 400 litre tank is crazily priced.  i paid 900 last year for myb 1000 litre tank in van and now they want 1600 quid for a 400 litre.

Welcome back Trig  ;) I got mine insured through our local broker who specialises in sorting insurance that the price comparison sites don't have a box for, he got my PL down to £150  ;D I had the same grief with the drain jetter with a built in 400ltr tank

We insure our vans though Autonet no problems with tanks in the back, differnet locations and multi drivers as well.

Good Luck ;)

I hope so as i've been with them for the past 3 years :-\

And last year i even had tool insurance with them so they know exactly what is in the van

Just checked though my policy and it all seems ok!

Even says under modifications that it has a water tank in the back!

But it is just over £400 a year on each van  :'(

PLI for only £150 that is bloody good ;)

Our new WFP van is insured with Aviva. Twas like drawing teeth going through the quote but in the end wasn't too bad.

Tank professionally fit though, not sure how they'd be otherwise.

Do you need to tell them about the tank? If empty whilst travelling then can't see a problem, just fill up when you get to site.

The issue is the large number of window cleaners with a full 1000ltr ibc in the back thats tied down with an old boot lace and goes out through the windscreen in a smack  :-[ the insurance companies judge us all by this sort of practice and we all suffer

No window cleaner has a 1000 ltr tank. I can work all day with a 250 litre tank. Also most are professionally fitted because they also have pumps, flow, controllers di vessels etc. Many of the vans are bought or leased with the tanks already installed. Window cleaners generally earn good enough money to have proper setups.

I have never seen a window cleaner with an ibc in the back, the only people I have seen with them are wheelie bin cleaners and pikey drive cleaners.

Ironically, you only have to declare it if it is fitted, which seems bizarre, if its not fitted its just goods in transit

I'm a window cleaner with a professionally fitted {Ionic} 1000 litre tank in the back of my Movano. I got insurance this year via NFU Mutual. It was approx £900 for the year. If the policy doesn't have wording about the water tank being fitted, you can be assured they won't pay out in an accident.
I got a few other quotes too but they were in the £2000 plus range.

How come the window cleaner down the road from me has an ibc then ? I had to talk him into tubing to baffle it. The JW that does next door has about 10 25ltr drums chucked in the back of his passat - come to think of it the only proper set up I've seen was on the ionics roadshow. Pikey drive cleaners - thats rich, thank you.  :'(

Sorry didn't mean to offend but you have to admiit that driveway cleaning has a bit of an image problem, to put it politely. As indeed does window cleaning at times. We have our fair share of doleys but round here the new window cleaners all seem come out of the woodwork already driving brand new fitted vans, bought with their redundancy money I would imagine.

I prefer to be a 'Pikey driveway cleaner'  :o to a 'Dole boy window cleaner ' ;D ;D
