buying a van
« on: April 14, 2012, 12:32:20 pm »
Its time to buy a van again in the past always done it on finance but have noticed their are other options like lease hire contract hire lease buy the list goes on
are their any benefits from these other options not looked into them in detail but like the idea of not having the worry of repair costs or being able to get another van if it breaks down
Whats everybodys thoughts?

I am not keen on a leased van because. So many leasing companies what the van back in a practically new state.Or you pay a penalty for holes drilled, scrapes and dings. Some have a large amount to pay at the end of the leases as Squeeky clean found out.LOOK UP THREAD.The lease agreement is not in plain English and has hidden clauses to catch you out.You have no asset at the end P.H. is better in this case.

Straight forward HP deal is the best.  Monthly leasing payments are cheaper but in my experience when you go to hand the van back you are hit with penalty charges.
I leased a citroen relay. Good van. End of 3 year lease I wanted to hand it back. It was in mint condition but the time their inspector went over it I was sent a bill for £550!!  Slightest mark they charged for. Wouldn`t recommend it.

Theres you, a van and a leasing company. Only one person is paying money in (you) They have offices, staff, wages etc.to pay for. Somebody is paying for it at the end of the day

Work the rest out for yourself. You pay the same as if you are buying the van but three years down the line they take it back leaving you with nothing. Its absolutely impossible for it to be a better deal, no matter how they try to present it. You are paying their wages.

plus you maybe on limited mileage with excess charge of anything from £1 per mile over the agreed mileage - which may be set at 10k per year

Thanks guys i did notice they had a mileage cap but that didnt bother me dont do 10k a year anyway was also concerned about drilling holes in it and then getting charged for the damage dont like the idea of not owning the van at the end so will go with my usual hp now to find a van

If you buy a new van now and take it on say 4 or 5 year finance (Vauxhalls doing 4 year 0% at moment) you still got a nice van worth a decent amount.

EG New Combo or Transit Connect both available if you shop around for £10500+VAT so assuming u not VAT registered figures will look like this

Connect £10500

VAT £2100

Total £12600

Less Deposit £2100  ( VAT amount ...this is the min most finance companies will consider)

Interest 5 years x 5%flat / APR will be approx 10%  = £2625

Total Payable £13125  divide by 60 months = £218.75 or £50.48 a week

COMBO

£10500

VAT £2100

Total £12600

they will want deposit of £2100

so £10500 over 48 months at 0% = £218.75 or weekly equivalent of £50.48

Also with Vauxhall you get 4 years warranty, 4 years free servicing and 4 years breakdown cover.

i just buy cheap second hand vans for £2000-£3000.most work is within 5 miles so i only do around 5000 miles a year.no leasing,no monthly payments etc.depends what you want your van for.if its your only vehicle and travel around a bit then its probably worth getting a new or nearly new van.

im currently saving up for a car.gonna buy a golf next month! :D :D :D :D.the van will just be used for work then.
price higher/work harder!

Thanks for those figures Ian not looking for brand new as dont want to be tied into payments for that long far too scarey for me and want to be paying out less than i do at the moment (£200 per month)
going to trade in my current van and spend maybe £5000 on top looking at getting a Transit again as need the extra room
Dazmond i have a golf great car plenty power in it although might sell it and just use the Transit all the time dont use the car that much

If you want the 4 year deal from Vauxhall you will prob have to pay the full list price for the van which will be a lot more than £10 500 + VAT

They want £14700 plus vat for the combo on a deal. Have just bought a 57 plate corsavan for my son but looked at the deals on a combo first. No movement on price for the 4444 deal when I tried. Also its min 20% of the price as a deposit plus the vat on 14700.
So its 2940.00 deposit plus 2940 vat = 5880.00 if your not vat registered then 245.00 per month for 4 years.
There is no way that van is worth nearly 15k so they can certainly offer 0% built in.
Also nearly £6k upfront buys you a cracking second hand van with at least 4 years left in it.
