Lisa,

I am more than sure that the same care agency, which has contacted you, can be the brolly agency you are looking for, as they have to “CRB” their staff too.

Using this link you can find out whether I am right.

Arthur

Lisa you could also ask Jan K if she could assist you.

I do CRB through a care company that I work for and I only pay as much as I have to pay for the CRB, no extras.  That is why I advised you to check whether you can do it through the care company you are going to work for.

Arthur

I was under the impression that they only told you if the applicant was a suitable candidate for this type of work and did not give details due to the data protection act.
I could be wrong!

Information on a CRB check is given under the following headings (in this order).

Police records of Convictions, Cautions, Reprimands and Final Warnings.

Information from the list held under section 142 of the Education Act 2002.

Protection of Children Act List information.

Protection of Vulnerable Adults List Information.

Other relevant information disclosed at the Chief Police Officer(s) discretion.

This is an exact copy of the headings from an 'Enhanced Criminal Record Certificate' within the meaning of sections 115 and 116 of the Police Act 1997.

There is no 'Data Protection' issue as the employee has to give permission for the disclosure to be made.

Right I'm with you.
I used to work for a care agency, where we worked closely with disabled childen and adults with learning difficulties and we were all police checked.
They just used to make a phone call to somewhere and and used to give all the persons details and they used to be told whether the person was suitable to work with children or vulnerable adults.

The crb website www. crb.gov.uk has so much information and an extensive list of umbrella companies - is there really that much difference between them.   If you do find a good one - let me know.

Does anyone know ---- If  you have used an umbrella company.  - Do you get to keep the returned information or does the umbrella company keep it?

A CRB check can take upto 5 weeks to come back, however not a lot of people know that for an extra small fee to the umbrella agency you can get what is known as a provo-first which is a basic check on the staff member to see if they are on the register for the protection of vulnerable persons.

hope this helps
