Towel Suppliers - where has the quality gone?
« on: February 05, 2012, 07:46:12 pm »
We have used many suppliers for towels and rags but found the best to be from a local supplier, until recently when we went to top-up.

The quality had vanished beyond all recognition. The towels we were given were at best 1/3 thickness of the ones we have always had. This led to a minor dispute with the supplier who was stunned when I took a four year old, extremely used and abused original in to him. He assured me he would be straight on to his suppiler and establish "what the hell was going on".

Heard nothing, even after chasing a couple of times.

It now seems that unless I'm up for paying £1.50 a shot from a supermarket then the quality is just not there.

I have resorted to bundle buying of terry towelling rags to tide us over but I need a new supplier of top quality cotton tea towels ASAP. Looking to pay around 80p + VAT a towel ideally.

Old Tea-Towels were from Abbey, as were the 'newer' poorer quality ones. I have seen Abbey at a few other suppliers and all are now way too thin.

We use mostly on builders cleans so the various colours Abbey come in, along with previous superb quality was perfect. As said, we've rags going strong after 4 years of almost daily abuse.

Popping over to Makro this week if I get chance but I'd be interested in hearing any recomendations.

Do a leaflet drop round your local area. Explain what you use them for so they don't think you are a Rag & Bone Man

"We pay £10 for a black bag full of old towels and tea towels or £5 for a half bag alternatively we will donate the money to a charity of their choice or give them a gift voucher for £10 for M & S.

Please ring this number we are collecting on such and such a date"  You will be amazed at the response.

We used to pay a donation to our local charity shop to collect them for us but even they have stopped getting them.  We use them all the time for cleaning sealers off floors and only old terry towels work for us!!!

Kev, something to think about but hopefully I'll find a new supply before I start leafletting again. I may add a comment on our local ad tho, so thanks.

As for rag 'n' bone men, there's more round our parts than ever!

Back to the original post, I popped into the supplier today and still no samples and appears to have forgot to chase up about the poor quality.............  ::)

Best for our work is top quality tea towels, although terry towelling comes a very close 2nd and is definitely hard to beat when cleaning real crud up.
