Citroen Dispatch Cam belt Slipped....Ouch!
« on: February 02, 2012, 11:48:56 am »
Following on from a few posts asking about Cam/timing belts...

Citroen recommend 100k or 10 years for renewing. Try NOT to leave it too long!

I Did just that! My van has just hit 80k but on a 51 plate is 10 years.
I keep my motor very well serviced, we do oil, filters etc every 8-10k without fail, did just that 6 weeks ago, only for the engine to go bang 10 days ago!
Two tow trucks and franticly ringing round to find an available garage, Finally got an estimate £1200
Hired a van @ £130 week (cheap I Know, EuropeCar Online) back to work, got the call Thurs afternoon van fixed.

Turns out Belt had slipped two teeth knocking timing out, luckily only breaking a rocker arm and only one valve needed re-seating, but £926 later plus van hire (did get one day hire refund for early return) it was a very expensive lesson and a lucky one that more damage hadn't been done.

So the moral of this story fella's don't leave Cam belts till manufacturers recommendation replacement date!
Do it earlier!

I bought a Citroen Dispatch with 70K on the clock; first thing we did was change the cambelt even though the seller to the garage (we bought it from a garage) reckoned he had had it changed; but there was no supporting paperwork.

Does anyone know if all those little stop start journeys we often do (well we do) put more strain on the cambelt?

Do not get what you are saying. Van is 10 years old so according to the manufacturer was due a cam belt change.

The 2.0 hdi is every 10 years or 100k. I think on the 1.9 td a cambelt change is recommended a bit sooner. Which is yours?
