vaccum hose / pump question
« on: January 30, 2012, 07:26:17 pm »
Hi everyone I have an old Ashcome Elite DL machine1990 ish (Same as early alltec or Extraca machine I think) which i'm just setting up but i'm finding  its really too big to lug up and down stairs , wondered if anyone has tried an extension hose on this model as i'm not sure it would have a powerful enough vacuum pump to run an extra 25 feet of hose. Advice /thoughts appeciated, also wondered if anyone has fitted a bigger vac pump on this model?
Oh can anyone identify what type of vacuum pump the attached  pic shows fitted?
  Cheers Dave

The upload folder for this forum is full unfortunately

SOMEONE SAID THEY WERE GOING TO FIX IT!!!

In the meantime I would use a free upload site like www.tinypic.com (load of others similar)

Regarding the machine, if memory serves correctly they are a singe 7.2" vac in those machines?  (Measure the diameter!)

With all due respect, if you're doing even a modest amount of carpet cleaning you'd find modern technology has come on a long way since that old girl was built :)

I would be saving my back, legs and arms (and a lot of time) by updating to something with a lot more power that will run 50ft of hose no problem from the ground floor of a house, without having to bring it inside.  Needn't break the bank, but would be a very wise investment.

thanks sure your right too ,I.ve had a days course and just cleaning family and friends to see if carpet cleaning really is for me but its becoming obvious by reading comments on the forum its a well out dated machine, still the power scrubber seems really good which i could use on newer cleaner .

7.2 units are about as big as you get.
Depending on your engineering skills I would think a new 6.6 unit would go in.
This would probably outperform a 7.2 and run 50 ft of hose.
Meanwhile save up....
God must love stupid people---He made so many.

working good ..    but from an upgrade or planing point of view it would be good to have an overall view of the internals . :)

generally though the options would be ....

The vacuum you have produces  about 450 airwatts of vac power

If you change to this newer 6.6 vac ( as a previous poster suggested )
you will have 650 airwatts   .   To fit it you may have to modify the mounting brackets slightly ...
you also need to get a little tube attached( welded ) to the top of it to fit the vac hose onto ...

Option B also involves mods ...
Get a 5.7 motor like this one ( it has the same specs as yours but smaller size )
and bolt it in place inside the machine ... then run a hose from this motor to a ' Y ' slpitter and join up with your old motor .... you would also need to fit an on / off switch for the new vac ..
the two vacs together will give you ... 900 airwatts ...

Option a might be the simplest ....  option b would be cheap if u can do the work yourself  :)

Thanks for all that infomation got exactly what i wanted from this posting, think i will take the advice and start saving for a new machine but maybe try the vacuum pump mod as i will then have a  back up machine for emergencies.
              thanks Dave
