Possible Pump and Battery Problem
« on: January 07, 2012, 09:26:51 am »
Morning,

Before i go and speak to the company i bought my leisure battery from, or strip the pump down i thought i'd run this problem past you guys.

Yesterday i noticed that my pump (Shurflo 100psi) was struggling to push any air that had got in over the christmas period out of the system (or at least i thought was air), i'd also noticed that it is making more a loader (electrical) clicking noise went it seems to reach pressure.

Am i right in saying that the pressure switch is already on its way out, if it is i'm surprised as its only just over a year old???

I've got a Hotwash installed and on numerous occasions yesterday i had to release the incoming water supply from the pump to the Hotwash, then reconnect it to sort of trick the pump to start pumping as it just keep cutting out. Even when i opened my Aquadapter it just wouldn't pump unless i did this.

The other thing is, i've got a 85Ah leisure battery that i used to get two days work out of and would charge mainly with the split charge, until recently i was getting a day and a half and yesterday only three quarters and i'm now having to it charge it every night!

Is it safe to say that the battery is on its way out already and is a warrantee issue or just crappy wear and tear (think its under a year old) or should i just replace it and this time go with a bigger size???

If your leisure battery isn't holding charge as it used to its on its way out.
Do the cells need to be topped up with de-ionised water?
I had the pressure switch go on a Shurflo pump after 10 months but if it does need replacing you can do it for less than £2  ;)

£2 thats a result, i've got a spare pump in the van but needs connecting and i've got one in pieces in the garage that i got with a load of other bits, might see if the pressure switch from that one is ok till i can get a new one ordered?

I was supposed to be cleaning this morning and whilst changing my Aquadapter hose for the new red one i thought i'd re-prime the system up and get some hot coming through and by the time i'd finished the pump was surging like crazy even with it ramped right up on pressure and speed it just wouldn't stop. So i've now had to cancel today... ping pump  >:( >:( >:(

So could i claim on the batteries year manufacturing warrantee as its dropping the charge or do you think its a touch and go affair???

Might be worth getting the battery tested to confirm if one or more of the cells are knackered. Then if it is you could try claiming on the warranty but don't know if you will get a result.
Maplins sell a standard microswitch for under £2 if you do need one which will replace the shurflo one with a bit of fiddling.

I might be being dull here, but have you got water trapped in pipes?

when I drain system got to undo pipe from reel otherwise pump just spends ages pumping air, this might also flatten battery quicker.

either way I have 110 amp battery, not on split change, and battery lasts 3 weeks or more.

Don't think so? Once i've put the inlet from the hotwash back on it'll pump quite happily until i shut it off for more than a few minutes and once the pump builds up pressure it just wont come back on without removing the inlet from the hotwash.

I did originally think it was an air blockage but, it was doing it for nearly eight hours yesterday and that i'd bleed it more than twenty times i had to rule that out.

have you got a flow control,

get battery tested as is prob knackered,  save your self money and wire up to van,  or run off a car battery,

when priming make sure no connectors are connected  ie reels or any thing,  u want the pump to be able to pump to full max,    basically the hose after pump out  disconnect from first appliance and see if that helps

gonna price up a new battery today, probably going to run both batteries (new and existing) and switch when needed.

gonna try my spare pressure switch as well, £30 seems a lot just on the off chance...
