i have a roof gutterway to tender my first commercial tender.   4 water way channels to hoover dry   really no build up about 16- 20 inches wide,  there is a steel rope about 6 feet between me and water channel,  i could hoover it dry with wet + dry vac  no prob.   what do i need for me to wear a safety harness , company big on h+s..  the water way is on roof with a side wall  so theres no edge of building to worry about.  can i just purchase a safety harness from workwear shop    or do i need cert.    might have to pull out of tender, Around 400 feet in lengh to hoover dry  twice a year   a dream job to get.   they also need a risk assesment to view , never needed one before,  all my vac jobs have been private houses,   any help would be much apreciated. thanks   this may be my step to grow.

If that strict on H & S you'll have to include risk assessments, method statements, copy insurances etc. You'll also need to show that you are qualified in the use of any equipment used, including harnesses, MEWP.

If you can't then don't waste your time, walk or sub for a commission.

You can hire a harness from a hire shop which will be tested and certified by them. If you then know the Method you will do it by then get a template from the government H & S site and also a Risk assessment. Hope this helps

If working for anyone that knows their stuff you will need to show that you are qualified in the safe and proper use of the harness.

Anyone can hire one, anyone can use one. The problems come following an injury and investigation. Corporate manslaughter being at the extreme end and one best avoided. Of course if you seriously injure or kill yourself the law will be the last of your worries.

Watch the training video and pity the poor sods that have totalled their testicles due to misuse
